Paperwork for mileage certificates and badges?

If someone wants to get one of those certificates for 100,000 miles on a BMW how do they document when they trade in a bike? I'm hoping to have 50k on my bike by EOY and I'm toying with the idea of trading it in on a new one. (But I don't want to lose credit for my current 50k)

Is there a different program BMW runs or is this only an MOA thing? (I've seen some 100k, 250k, and a 300k badge on some airheads?)

I might have it wrong, but the mileage award is a BMW Motorrad thing and the MOA will acknowledge the achievement while your dealer will be the one that submits all the paperwork. I took my info up to the dealer and they used that to complete the package for mailing off to BMW. Then BMW sends the plaque/badges back to the dealer where you pick it up. That's what happened for me.

As for accounting for the miles, service records, trade ins, even gas mileage logs should be good enough to demonstrate that you have accumulated the appropriate miles. I didn't find it to be a rigorous thing...I took all my info from gas mileage logs and was prepared to show the dealer, but they knew me and called it good.

The times we have done it, we only gave the dealer the model, VIN # and mileage of each bike. One time I was missing a VIN # and it didn't matter.
If you want a sticker and patch from the MOA there's a form you send to the MOA.

The system is a pain in the ass. I know, because I checked into it recently. It's a pain because you have to have the VIN for each BMW motorcycle. I am having trouble finding this information for my '86 K75C because I traded that bike in more than 12 years ago. I might have a document on it on an old computer, but so far I have not found the information, so I'm screwed.

I've found that most dealer management is familiar with the process and there are options for validating your miles.

I do have most of the submissions on file passed down from my predecessors and the beginning of the MOA program. Once in a while I demonstrate being human and names or achievements get missed. I get those corrected as soon as possible when a member brings them to my attention.

Thanks guys! I guess I'll have it covered if I end up buying another. I document it by year and on BMW's I'm up to 51,223 total so I'm 2-3 years from getting there but it's on the bucket list!
 
Between us Voni and I have done this 17 times, with mileages from 26 motorcycles. We have always filled out the form at our dealer. They submit it to BMW Motorrad USA. It calls for the model, VIN, start mileage and end mileage. We make a copy of the corporate form and send it to BMW MOA. So when you buy a bike record the mileage. Ditto when you sell it.

If your dealer knows you well it won't be a problem. Like I said, one time I was missing a VIN # and I still got the award from BMWNA.
 
I found some paperwork for my old K75C, including part of a log I kept on it along with repair bills, some which show the VIN, so I can submit info for a mileage award.

I have a spreadsheet that has every bike we have owned in the past 39 years. Year, make, model, purchase date, beginning mileage. sell/trade date, and ending mileage.

And I am sure there is a spot on there for maintenance records as well!!
