    2015 Iron Butt Rally

We're excited that the start, one checkpoint, and the finish are in Albuquerque, New Mexico, close to our summer stomping grounds.

This year commentary will be by Paul's riding partner from the 1999 Rally, Chris Cimino.

A great place to follow along is here:

Pulling for our friends to have a most excellent adventure.

    I'll post pictures . . .

If you're on Facebook you might want to "like" the Iron Butt Magazine's page. Lots of pictures already, including one of the Rally Artwork. Looks like National Parks are definitely part of the plan for eleven day rally!

Bob Rippy, BMW rider and past IBR Finisher is in the volunteer line this year and is posting pictures and information on his blog:

LOTS of BMW riders in this rally, as always, including Jim Owen, winner of the 2009 Rally:

    Woo Hoo.

    Looking forward to the reports.

Lots of different fuel cells this year.

    What's up with air conditioning?

Haven't seen the entry list yet. Looks like fewer Beemers that before???????

    Thanks Voni for the link.

Tell Paul I bought an 09 GS.

    See ya on the road.

There are now products - essentially 12v heat pumps - that serve to deliver either warm air, or cool air to specialized rider clothing. That is what was mentioned re Josh Mountain.

This just in from the Facebook Page of Iron Butt Magazine:

Senior Rally Staff have been very tight lipped about this so we are not sure what is going on. All riders are being required to bring their laptop computers to the riders meeting this afternoon. The last time we are aware of this sort of thing was at the Word Rally a few years ago. If you're not aware, at that rally, laptops were sealed so the riders could not use their mapping software and were forced to use paper maps.

Seems that sort of restriction would also have to be applied to tablets and smart phones. Would everyone have been prepared with paper maps suitable for route planning? These days, I'd expect most riders would have some sort of back-up device rather than a Rand McNally atlas.
