Check your saddle bag hinge screws - R1200R, 2009

tinytrains

Still plays with trains.
I have the BMW system cases and when I opened one yesterday, it was hanging by one hinge. Two screws had vibrated out (gone), and all the rest were loose.

Add that to the periodic service routine if you have BMW cases.

Just thought I would share.

Scott - thanks for the reminder. I believe I recommended that here back in 2007, when I found 2 missing screws on my '07's bags. Better then checking them - remove and reinstall them one by one, putting some blue Loctite on each one. They will never back out again (at least mine haven't in about 87,000 miles.)

I have been thinking about breaking out the Loctite. Excellent idea.

Not having a 1200, I'm not specifically familiar with these bags, but -

If the screws go into plastic (or are they nutted?), then Loctite is not a good idea - it is not compatible with many plastics, and will cause the plastic to become brittle. Use some other bonding goop.

Yep, found one loose on Paul's 07 R1200R. If your wondering why "I" found it, it is because I do all the bike washing and he does all the maintenance on our bikes. I find stuff that needs repair all the time by washing our bikes. Am I a good wife or what?:lol
