mounting radar detector on 2013 K1600 GTL

Hello folks. I am a new member to the BMW MOA. I was hoping to get some advice regarding mounting a radar detector on a 2013 K1600 GTL. I was hoping to use a Valentine One Radar Detector which has both front and rear radar detection capabilities. Hence, I need to mount the unit laterally (rather than centerline) so that the rear detector is not blocked by my body. I also need to mount it high enough so that my body does not block it. In years past I had an Escort Detector which only detected from the front and I had it attached to another bike with a windshield mounted suction cup bracket. Sadly, the suction cups released themselves on the highway one day and the entire unit was launched down the highway. I never did find it. I was hoping to avoid that mistake by using a much more reliable mount (and hopefully a mount that will allow the use of the Valentine One detector). Any and all advice and personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help.

    Welcome to the forum!
Legal speeding had some ideas on mounts if I remember correctly. This part of the forum is more for the inner workings and "how to" when you are on the forum.
I'll leave this here a bit and maybe move it to gear for you- maybe the 1600 forum. Perhaps one or two of the members can get the ball rolling and we can figure the spot best suited to help you.
    Enjoy the forum.

EDIT- the bit of double-up is due the post merge....Good luck

mounting radar detector on 2013 K1600 GTL

Hello folks. I am a new member with a 2013 K1600 GTL. I am trying to determine a good way to mount a Valentine One Radar Detector. That detector has both front and rear detectors so it needs to be mounted laterally (rather than midline) so that the rider's body does not block the detector's rear unit. I would greatly appreciate the wisdom of the group as I assume someone wiser than me has already addressed this issue successfully. Thank you in advance.

I bought a cup holder from Leader Motorcycle for my 1600. I had to do a little grinding on the base plate so it would clear the clutch reservoir but it works good. They sell the same mount with a RAM ball you could adapt to for your detector.

Keep it simple... Heavy duty velcro on top of the brake fluid reservoir. Never had mine come off in many many years.

I use the RAM ball mount for the brake reservoir for my valentine 1. On the Ball I have the mid-sized Arm, and then the Spring loaded X-Mount. The Valentine 1 has a rear facing laser/radar detector panel, and is angled as if it would be in the middle of a car, under a rear view mirror. The mounting system I use makes it so the radar detector has a clear view to the rear for the laser detector, and so I can read the display more easily than if it were on the clutch reservoir. The power wire runs down my handlebars, then under the faux gas-tank Tupperware, all the way to the back of the bike where the power adapter is located. I regularly smother the phone-connector end with di-electric grease, as it has a tendency to rust a bit if exposed to the elements for too long. The X-Mount allows me to grab it off the bike by either taking the whole arm off when stopping for the night, or just the detector itself if stoping for lunch, or when rain threatens and I can stop it in my tank bag.

Thank you for your detailed advice. I have contacted the Techmount people in Florida and they are sending me their Generation 4 mount and radar detector platform. It sounds like it is very similar to what you describe. After I receive it and mount it I will try to give some feedback as to how it works. Again, thank you.
