    Taillight bulb replacement

1982 R100RS taillight burned out. Auto store had only 7.5w bulb, original was 5w. Will this be a problem?

BMW Hucky shows them for $1.60 on his website:

    I'd get the right part.

On my 85, I tried replacing that stupid little 5w nightlight with a 10w bulb and that kept smoking a fuse. Maybe you could get away with a 7.5w and maybe not...

I gave up and bought an LED board that goes into the taillight housing from Rick Jones. Now, people don't make comments about how hard it is to see me from the rear at night anymore.

+ 1 on the led taillight from motorad electric, I like it! I changed to led lights on my old bunkhouse camper too.

It's a European bike and it requires European bulbs and you're shopping somewhere that doesn't have them. This has been true for decades as regards American FLAPS, although in just recent years some are improving. This is usually easily determined by color of bulb base, i.e. if it's gold rather than silver it's incorrect and most of the time significantly inferior.

You can melt the inside of the red lense with too hot of a bulb. It might take a bit of time but it happens. DAMHIK! The LED setup from Rick is worth the $.

I know it is a bit more $$ than a replacement bulb, but wow, what a difference in visibility for folks coming up behind you.
