Ilium Works Barbacks

I like the barbacks. They were a muther to install. Not quite true. The backs themselves were easy, getting the grips out of the exsising bar was very hard. I may have damaged the wonder wheel from the banging on the handle bar. In another thread it was suggesterd to use a penetrating oil to help. I would take any help I could have gotten. I also used several lenghts of 10 mm bolts. You could damage the bolt sent with the kit if you follow the video. The video makes it seem easy, it isn't but a nice result.

Special Tool

They have posted on their website that they will release a special tool for removing the handle bar ends. Due out as a loaner item on Sept 22.

bar backs

I am glad I am not the only one that is having troubles. I have not got the factory bars to release yet. Heated it pretty hot and banged on the 10mm bolt till I bent it. So I quit trying to install them after that. How far did they bring the bars back. Its my wifes bike, she does not really care about the height, just needs them to move back for her.
Thanks

As I stated on other site, mine came out with little fuss, and so far I definately like them. They do look a little odd but I think the engineering aspect is solid.
-Used WD40 before heating and hammering
-Used body work hammer that struck dead on and transfered the energy through the bars well
-Heated to 160-170 degrees with heat gun, verified by laser Thermometer

Worst part is lining it all up to lock it down with Locktite.
After 2 days of riding, I feel like I need to rotate my controls a bit.

I order a set last weds. with the tool second day air. Received everything Friday afternoon. I basically followed the video and an hour later that were installed. The tool is GREAT!! The tool is basically a gear puller but in reverse. No beating or banging. The one thing that I ran into was the old thread lock made it difficult to tighten the bars back up. I just ran the bolt in and out a few threads at a time and it removed enough of the thread lock to tighten as required.

I aligned the bar backs using a straight edge off the front of the handle bars to set the angle. Its pretty good for me but for those with shorter arms you can adjust it back closer if needed. Wasn't sure I was going to like the look but honestly they look pretty good and more important WORK FOR ME!!

If your interested give Ron a call and tell him I sent you. GREAT people to do business with. I am just a happy customer:)
