I have protection bars on my R1200GS. Went down a couple of times on a nasty rocky trail two weeks ago and knocked off the engine's bash plate. However, except for a few scratches, the rest of the bike, including valve covers, came out just fine.

i dropped out and am now rejoining with a 2014 r1200gs. can you recommed engine guards and gps ( bmw nav V and garmin 665)

Welcome back kehenline

You really found an old thread here!

I am going to move your request to Wetheads, your water cooled GS is considered one of those here. I'll add model/year to your title.
