BMW Insurance - 2013 R1200RT

Don't waste your time calling BMW Insurance (Liberty Mutual). I called for a quote on my RT. Over $800. My Progressive renewal is $594; last year was $477 but that started out on my '10 Road Glide.

When I was insurance shopping back in 2012 Progressive was the best deal I could find, most comprehensive as well. I pay around $600/yr.

I believe state to state/country to country are different rates...hard to compare same companies in different markets.

My Austin rates were lower than my Houston rates many years back when I left the big city

Roadside assistance with Progressive is awesome.

Roadside with Progressive is worthless if you aren't willing to go to the nearest shop. If you want to go to the nearest dealer, you will pay dearly. Cost me $280 for a 30 mile transport. Fun part was I got to pay for how many miles the tow truck driver drove just to get to me, which used up more than the 15 miles Progressive covers.

Maybe its because I insure my cars with them also (Geico). But I pay $193/yr with Roadside on my 2010 R1200R, and yes thats full coverage.

Have to disagree with that statement. Deer strike south of Zanesville Ohio on RT 555.
Progessive shipped my bike back to Cleveland at no charge.
They could have sent it to Athens or Columbus, which are a lot closer.
They decided to tow it back to the dealer closest to my home without me saying anything to them.

steve aniled it, rates are all over the place. even same insurance from different sources can vary greatly. currently paying ~$280 with Dairyland for year round, collision included, unlimited tow, 2 bikes. yet when i looked at them previously thru the BMW deal i wsa quoted more than 2x that amount.

best advice- shop around.

hell, i remember getting a first quote from one agency with Progressive for $600/yr, and the exact same policy with Prog from another agent 5 miles down the street was only $300.

Sure, but none of those companies have Flo as their spokesperson.

But seriously... it sure pays to shop for insurance. But don't forget about multi-vehicle/home owners bundles that can save a bunch, too. Here in MA I get a nice discount on the RT for having taken the Experienced Rider course. So counting all that I have State Farm. Good rates but no m-c towing. AAA doesn't do m-c emergency roadside here in New England so I'm relying on the AMA plan.

Clearly there is no consistency from state to state or even town to town. So shop!

Yeah it is. I got a quote from them and it was better than Progressive, until I got a bill the next day for double. They said I could get the original rate if I insured my house and cars. No thanks. I went back to progressive, even if they did raise their rates. Talk about bait and switch.

Perhaps that was because your bike was covered under the insurance claim. My comment was in regards to their roadside assistance you can add on for a small additional fee. My car had a mechanical breakdown and I would have paid less money just calling a private tow. Instead Progressive sent one of their contracted rip-offs and I got to pay dearly.

Two friends and I all have Progressive. They each have a different agent and I bought mine online. We all pay a very different rate even though our location and driving record are very similar. I had full coverage on mine for less than one friend has liability and UM coverage only.

I went insurance pricing several years ago and price checked a lot of places claiming to be motorcycle specialists. I got prices all over the board but the one thing they had in common was that they were all selling Progressive without telling until I asked specifically.
