2007 Rally!

Site of next MOA Rally

The impression I have is the the Rally site location is kept very closely guarded secret within the inner sanctums of MOA to which ordinary mortals are not admitted to easily.

But if I were to suggest a location it would be Banf National Park in Canada... the Canaidan Rockies are so gorgeous, cooler in July and there is some great riding alvailble in the European Alps like roads. The dollar goes a long way too...at least today.

This sounds like Superman's home!! I don't think the Rally Site Selection Committee are Supermen!! but close!!

I would second that selection for a rally site! Now all we have to do is find a site in Banff. I will leave that up to you Ozzie. :)

'07 Rally in Crawford, Texas

We have been invited by George & Laura Bush to camp on their ranch in Crawford, Texas for the next BMW national rally. You do not have to be a Republican, but Cindy Sheehan could be your tent neighbor!

The 2007 Rally will be in....North Georgia!! Well, they are right in the center of the best riding roads in the country.

2007 in Georgia?

Damn, I think my bike still has some o' that old Georgia clay on it from last time.....Oh well, it sure is pretty down there- Blue Ridge, Deals Gap anyone?

An' if you can't catch an armadillo, you can always grill one o' those roaches! :eat

(forget about the armadillo- I've seen 'em outrun jap bikes)

Don, I'm in for tha Canadian Rockies! Isn't Whistler the CG that's right outside of Jasper? I remember that it was pretty big, but I don't remember much about the facilities for a crowd-

At last! A proper smilie! :kbasa

Whistler is not in the Rockies and is about 500+ miles from Jasper depending on which way you go. It is plenty big enough to host a Rally, lacks any campground {but has lots of high end hotels}

That's a different Whistler!!

Whistlers Campground IS pretty big- though not nearly big enough for the MOA. I was there on my way back from the Last Frontier Rally back in '95, just by chance on the same weekend the BMW Canada Rally was there. Very pretty, and in the midst of some amazing scenery and riding!! :thumb

There was a prairie dog village in the middle of the rally site, and the little buggers raided the rally kitchen while nobody was looking! :nyah

(from http://www.discoverjasper.com/WheretoStay/Campgrounds/index.html]) :dance

Whistlers Campground
* 781 Sites * Tap water * Public phone * Firewood for sale * Services: 77 PWS, 100 P, N * Wheelchair accessible sites, washrooms and showers * Directions 3 km S. of Jasper townsite on Hwy. 93 - no reservations
Address: N/A

Whistler/Blackcomb is home to some of the best skiing in the Northwest; two adjoining mountains, both spectacular and the lifts join at the base. We used to get a 4-day dual-mountain pass for under $100 Canadian!!
(see http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/index.htm)

The Village at Whistler is probably much closer to the right size/facilities for a National rally, and the ride up the coast through the Garibaldi Provincial Park is stunning!

I thing Kalispell, Mt. would be a great place. It has all the requirements with many places to see before and after the rally. You can even go in to Canada through Glacier National Park via Going to the Sun Hiway (Logan Pass). to elevations up to 10,000 ft. Fresh Mountain Huckleberry Milk Shakes, yummm! Back road Glacier Park rides too. Huge Flathead Lake (28 miles long) located from Kalispell to Polson. Great riding through Swan Valley. View wildlife throughout the area, great scenery and waterfalls, did I mention GREAT RIDING? Great weather in July too. Been there many times and keep loving to go back. Let's do this!!! By the way it's also less than 500 miles to Yellowstone Nal. Park for all those who are retired or have alot of time on our hands.

May I suggest Wisconsin? Either the EAA field or the fair grounds, both in Oshkosh. Plenty of space, and easily accessible to Kettle Morraine riding (lots of hill and twisties). Casinos as well as family venues near.

I would also like to suggest Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It sure would be nice to have a parade in front of Willie Davidson's offices! Tee-hee.

...we're still thinking southern California but we'll be happy any place west of the Mississippi (which is a wonderful spot all on its own!....well, how about there? Crossroads 2007? :dunno ) -Bob

You don't really want to do a rally at the Crossroads. Movies always make it look like a desolate spot, but in reality the famous intersection is sorrounded by Zippy Marts and McDonalds'es and such. Poor Old Scratch won't know how to find us with all that commerce going on.

ok....that's sort of true. Didn't take in what you say but we did have an interesting 'encounter' at the crossroads. Ya...I agree...maybe not the crossroads but I do want to say that we did enjoy Mississippi (damn! it was good to get really fine coffee as we crossed into Mississippi 'from a bordering State'). Travel, it sure does help to break down stereotypes. We still vote for southern Cal. in '07. -Bob

MOA Rally

While I haven't confirmed it yet, I plan on riding to the rally from Central California. I plan on stopping at a few national parks along the way before reaching Wisconsin.

I'm curious if there are others that will be riding east from California so that I may hookup with them enroute. I probably won't be coming back right away as I plan to visit relatives just east of Buffalo, NY.
