Orientation of Rocker supports?

Darryl Cainey

Sir Darby
I remember seeing the post with pictures about the Orientation of Rocker Supports.

Can't find it doing a search, anybody... anybody?

I read both sections but it doesn't address my question about the pillow block orientation.

Also is there a meaning or a reason for the dot on the end of the rocker shaft and where the dot should be?

I thought that was in Anton's site, at least in terms of the "dot". IIRC that is to help orient the rocker shaft so that the oiling holes line up.

I haven't thought/looked at the pillow or rocker blocks...is there a "proper" orientation for them??

Not for sure, but I thought the dots on the ends of the rocker shafts go "up" rather than down. Does that make sense?

On mine, when I looked at mine, those dots were on top.

To be sure about oil flow, I actually ran mine a little before re-installing the rocker covers, to make sure there was oil flowing to them.

If I understand correctly it's these that you are wondering about..........
They should be up & out.............

Darryl mentioned the rocker supports or blocks. Certainly the shafts must be oriented properly. I'm not so sure on the blocks, though.

I looked at pictures of my top end rebuild from last year...the /7. The top rocker blocks on left side had the split facing forwards and backwards...just like the picture above. However, on the right side, both rocker block splits were pointing to the front. Ran that way for a good 80K miles. Just noticed...they went back on that way! BTW...my shafts have the insert in the middle of them, not the solid ones shown in the above picture.

Thank you, that's what I was looking for!
