Inconsistent Spark with timing light (92 GS)

When timing the engine I get a very sporadic light from the timing device.
Same for R & L plug wire.
The coil is new, as of 5 minutes ago.
The connections are clean.
The timing is right on. (on mark below "S")

Which way should I look. :scratch

Model of timing light? Inductive pickup? Move the inductive pickup (I'm assuming that's the type) closer to the spark plug. What is your power source for the light? Try and use a separate power supply, like the battery in your car. Also, borrow a timing light from someone and rule that out as a problem.

The timing device in question.......

I used the bikes battery.
I suppose I could bring the F650 over & use it's battery.

Online info says it's inductive "with metal clamp". What's the clamp do?

The video mentions "patented Skip Circuitry Test" and the flashing light in the video almost seems to be what you're seeing. Could it be a feature that you need to disable?
