Still Wondering
bbc.co.uk Michael Schumacher, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, is in a "critical condition" after a skiing accident, says the French hospital at which he is being treated.

Jeeze, with all the possible danger(s) he has been through in his career, seems skiing would be quite a ways down on his life threatening list. Says they took him to Grenoble, I think they had olympics there a ways back. Hopefully they are used to this kind of trauma.

...seems skiing would be quite a ways down on his life threatening list.

Indeed. In the resorts just west of here, they get one death about every 6 or 7 years. We don't hear about the injuries, of course.

But Schumacher was skiing "off piste", which could mean he was skiing some very technical terrain.

Earlier reports described the area he and his son were skiing was between two groomed runs or technical terrain. They also were describing his injury as serious but not critical. He was reported to be conscious when transported to hospital. His condition has since deteriorated.

Dang, The Stig.
OK, the Stig for a day.
Understand the coma was induced, can't be good.
Thinking good thoughts

Hospital personnel state he wouldn't have made it to hospital if he hadn't been wearing a helmet.

As anticipation of the opening race for 2014 builds in Australia and around the racing world the Sydney Morning Herald has this sobering story about Micheal Schumacher titled - Hopes fade for Micheal Schumacher. The tone of the article is made all the more poignant by descriptions of Filepe Massa's bedside involvement.
