Tell us about the food you've found or stumbled on while on the road. Let us know what places and food you go out of your way to get back to. Some of you take pictures, too...that would be nice to see as well. Sometimes it's about the journey, sometimes it's about the destination. Heck, sometimes it's about the food! :eat :yum

Be sure to include the city and state in the post title...that makes it easy to spot something interesting, nearby, or on the way. :thumb

Here's a map that has been compiled over on Facebook showing places that others thought were worth the stop:

Kip's Grill & Cantina Pagosa Springs, CO

Great cantina with fresh Mexican food! You'll find fish tacos, pork barbacoa, a good selection of cold beer and the regular items you'd expect. Nice hats and t-shirts, too! Casual dining, live music on occasion. Nice outdoor patio and prices are easy on the wallet. :eat

Beef Jerky!

You just have to stop in Longview AB on the Cowboy Highway for some this delicious local chew. Comes in handy on Iron Butt rides cut in small pieces in the 'Treat Bag'.

Fried Pies

Next time you're in northeast Texas, give the Farm House Fried Pies a try. Many flavor choices and the people are friendly. Bakery is located in the back of Mineola Mercantile at the corner of Highway 80 and 69 in Mineola, TX.

Amica's Pizza and MicroBrew in Salida CO

Found this one in Salida, CO a few weeks ago. Located in the heart of downtown Salida... you have to get off the beaten path to find it.

For a NY/NJ/New Haven County boy to find pizza of this quality out here... wow, just amazing!

I can attest personally that their Nigel's Rather Large (English) Ale is a true delight. If i lived closer, it could easily become my regular favorite. I have been told that their Loyal Duke Scotch Ale is also fine stuff.

oh yeah.. the riding's none too shabby down that way, either.

Thai Mini Cafe- Salida, CO

so this one is a real sleeper.

From the outside... yeah, you're driving right by and ignoring it. DON'T!!

She's been located in and near Salida for the past 14 years, testament enough to the quality of food.

Anything i've tried there has been very tasty and fresh, but the Drunken Noodles is a total kick-ass dish.
Getting a pot of hot tea delivered to your table before anything else is a nice little treat.

Barely west of the intersection of 287 and 50, just west of the "main strip" (where all the crap chain offerings are located) of Salida along US50.

My favorite quest is Mexican food in small towns.

Best I've found is in Rocky Ford, CO.

Also good in
Silver City, NM
Raton, NM
Sterling CO
Clinton, OK
Hinton, OK

The Buck Stops Here, Pagosa, CO

if you like a nice deli sandwich, or maybe a burger, this place is outstanding. They prepare all their own meats, as a butcher shop is part of the restaurant. (as is a bar)
They're on the north side of 160, top of the hill, far west side of town, end of the "mall complex".
Seriously, I could barely finish their smoked club, and i can finish near anything. Really tasty meats.. my g/f got their roast beef, which came with at least 2" of sliced lean rb. (btw, no, it did not defeat me, but if i lived local, i could have taken the 2nd half home for supper)

Sure agree with that goal!

Hard to come by good stuff, the further north you go (go figure!), but the best/most northern I've found is Lindo Family Mexican in Miles City, MT. They've recently opened a satellite location in the casino in Glendive, MT, run by one of the grown children, and it's excellent also. It's also closer to me (about 4 hours away). Sure makes the ride worthwhile.

Hamiltons on magnolia Auburn AL

Yesterday Brian Hinton took Jeff Hanshew and I to Hamiltons. He ordered an appetizer, fried green tomatoes skewered with butterfly grilled shrimp, holy cow.... It was so good it'd make ya slap yo momma.

John,
it was very good. The cook came out and talked to us. He used to ride. I could tell he missed it. We talked, shook hands...

I threw some urban slang in there to capture the full effect of the culinary goodness.

Mexican (new Mexican) joint in Las Vegas New Mexico right as you get into town... Great food and service. Worth stopping every time I pass through.

We took our first big run on new '17 GSA's in April and May this year. My wife and I started in Oregon, but went through New Mexico and southern Colorado where we discovered the many versions of Green Chili. From a sauce to a soup by adding Pork, every little cafe in the small towns we stopped in had a different spin on this regional staple - and each version was good to great in its own way. When we would tell the owner how great their recipe was, there was always a long friendly conversation to follow. People are really nice in this part of the world.

God take care of you folks in New Mexico and Colorado this summer and fall. You've got awfully dry conditions and the fire season based on our trip experiences looks to be epic! I wish you frequent rains and light winds.

Chess Club on the south side of Blanco Texas is a place we keep going back to for breakfast.

Someone on this site mentioned the 4th Street Diner in Saquache Colorado.
Whoever mentioned it, thank you, it was very good.
