Mesh vs vented jacket in hot humid weather

Now that I have my new bike ('00 R1100R to replace my R1100RS which was stolen a few years ago) with a decent amount of my budgeted $$ left over, I?m looking for a new suit. One that offers excellent protection (makes the wife feel better). I live in S. Fl where it gets hot and humid during the summer. Earlier, I found that my then Olympia Moab mesh jacket seemed to get almost uncomfortable cool when riding at speed with the evaporative cooling going on. Maybe at 58 yoa my body’s more sensitive to temp fluctuation, i.e., hot in slow traffic followed by rapid cooling once moving fast again.

Anyway, has anyone gone from mesh to vented or vice versa and what were your impressions?

In the summer here in NC, mesh is fine for any short ride but once the temp clears 94 or so and distances get longer than an hour, you need to protect yourself from heat accumulation.

I use vented with a Veskimo underneath for long runs in hot humid weather and the lighter mesh gear for short runs.
