Moving Bars From Under To Over The Triple Clamp On '99 R1100S

Gentlemen,

I am picking up a '99 R1100S (non-ABS, non-servo) in Minneapolis on Thursday to ride to California. I want to re-position the bars to the higher position. Is all I need to do is:

- remove triple clamp,
- remove bars,
- re-install triple clamp with 1" of fork tube protruding,
- re-attach bars,
- Bob's yer uncle?

If you are moving the fork tubes up in the triple clamps, you will change the steering geometry. Your trail will shorten and your steering will get "quicker". Make sure, you will still accept the characteristic of the bike. It will have a tendency to 'tip" in slow tight corners.
 
a few notes:
-99% positive that moving the forks up higher in the 3tree does nothing to impact steering geometry. (could be wrong, but don't think so)
-no moving of 3tree involved. unbolt lower clipons (there's a hidden locating bolt on bottom side of upper 3tree), loosen upper 3tree bolts, drop tubes (one at a time) to extricate bars, then raise fork tubes until you have sufficient height to reclamp clipons. you will not have a locating hole anymore, so front/back alignment will have to be by visual confirmation. tighten all bolts to spec.

With sufficient length of stanchion tubes, you are correct on the no geometry change, sir. Thanks for the tip on NOT removing triple clamp. :thumb
