Insurance premiums....

The wife's worked for the insurance division of the Automobile Club of Southern California for thirty-two years now. She started in sales, did well, got older (aren't we all); the quota requirements started taking it's toll (if their sales numbers are off after thirty days they receive a verbal warning, another thirty days a written, and if another thirty, they're gone); so she moved to a supervisory position (not management) where she puts in the same amount of hours (50+), and makes less. But at least, after putting in thirty-two years, with five years left to go, she can't be fired for a sales slump.

So in light of pinched salaries, and ridiculous sales quotas (their sales staff turnover is astounding; they don't seem to care about the cost of training new sales people for six months) it's incredibly ... mmm mm annoying ... to see SoCal AAA gobbling up surrounding AAAs (Arizona,Texas, Indiana, Hawaii) AND playing around with...

Insurance premiums

My premiums on everything were going up. I went shopping. Progressive MC insurance price was clobbered by State Farm. SF also beat Geico on the car.
As my ex wife once said: "when bothered, go shopping".
Hated to leave Progressive due to excellent service after a low side accident, but the difference was significant.

I used to be in the insurance business for a number of years and currently use Dairyland Motorcycle Insurance. My '05 R1200RT has full coverage with them for just over $320 per year. The agent who I use and who I used to work with has about 20 years in the business. She has a great reputation. Tell her Dan Schmidt referred you. They can insure in all 50 states:

Ms. Claudia Lovrity-Smith
John M Glover Agency

e-mail:clovrity@johnmglover.com

I did make contact with Claudia, but she was on vacation at the time of my renewal - maybe next year. She has my info. Thanks for the connection, Dan. :thumb

I eventually went with Progressive online. Foremost fell by the wayside due to unacceptable (to me) medical payments coverage ($1,000 only, no other options - really, nowadays?? - that's almost the price of a Band-Aid in ER!!) With the level of coverage I was seeking and with my deductibles, Progressive got it.

Thanks to everyone who added to this thread. It has been an educational eye-opener - though I am still mystified why Markel upped my premium by such a large percentage, with no explanation!

Ride safe!!

I just got my renewal notice from Progressive and it went up 35%. WTF? I had no claims or tickets. I did move, but live in the same town.

Given everything that's been expressed here, I am beginning to wonder if there isn't some belief within insurance companies, especially for motorcycle policyholders (?), that after a year or two, they've "gotcha" and feel able to lift premiums, because of your obvious (?) "loyalty" factor???

Just sayin'....

For sure, I'll be shopping prior to every renewal after this...

I have Progressive through the Randolph Scott Ins. Agcy. in Lexington,KY(not where I live) & it was much cheaper there direct than the web quote from same ins co & has NOT! gone up & in fact went down when I changed from 1150R to G650GS. See their website for my contact there-Kent(he rides!) for a quote.

That's the thing. In the past I have used Progressive on two Kawasaki's and the rates went down every year and I got it direct. I'll have to see if a quote through an agent is cheaper. Markel was $20 more than my renewal and that was with the MOA discount. So much for discounts.

Ever so often, I participated in discussions on the internet about insurance rates. Until I found out, that these threads are right up there with oil threads....:scratch

Oil threads are worse and the worst is warranty issues/common problems that BMW ignores. Definitely the worst.

The response from Progressive:

A review of the policy shows, the premium has increased due to a recent rate change within your state.
We raised rates across the state to match rising claims costs--which include Bodily Injury, medical, and weather claims. Please keep in mind that other carriers will experience the same trend.

You may be eligible for additional discounts that would help you save some money. Just call a policy Review Specialist at 1-800-300-3693 to talk about this.

When my American Modern started that upward spiral I went shopping a few years back. Called the 800 # for Progressive & the quote was TOOOOO! high. A rider in Louisville,KY advised me to call Kent per above which resulted in an informed purchase at reasonable cost. It has stayed reasonable too.
