92 K75RT mystery sensor/connector?

While prepping the bike for my next trip I spotted this device dangling on the left hand side in the free space behind the engine block. Is it some sort of sensor that should be plugged in somewhere or just a terminating connector for an unused wire? It's about 50mm long with an 8mm diameter and doesn't have much free cable length behind it.I'm wondering if it's supposed to be stuck in a hole somewhere and may be the cause of my miserable MPG return.........?

If this is indeed the altitude sensor where does it go?

The high altitude plug is just an open switch. When riding at high altitudes complete the circuit using the matching plug or using a homemade wired loop. That tells the bike to adjust the fuel mixture.

Pull the smaller diameter end plug out of the larger diameter connector. You will see the two pin connector inside. When at higher altitudes (above 4000ft), insert the altitude plug (a separate part that you evidently don't have: 61 13 1 459 504 CONTACT RING $7.90. It's basically a jumper wire with the correct connector that tells the EFI computer to reduce the amount of fuel injected to compensate for the thinner air at high altitude.

If you have the tool kit it may be in there, that's where mine is.

I got my '85 RS used so it did not have the plug. I picked up one and wired it to a standard switch on the dash so I could use it anytime I went to higher altitudes.
