K1200GT ESA issue

My '06 K1200GT ESA was not responding to changes in the display. I could hold the button and the icon would change on the dash, but the actual suspension was not responding, and felt terribly "mushy", to the point of feeling unsafe in some corners (yeah, I know, slow dow. Thanks Mom). While at the dealership for 2 open recalls, they found a broken ESA wire leading to the front shock. The wire is located just above the "wheel carrier" (fork) and causes a week spot where it is being flexed over and over. BMW makes a repair kit for this, but you can solder the wire and put heat shrink over it as well. My buddies '08 had the same issue.

Not sure how many others have run in to this, might be something you want to look at if your handling suddenly gets poor, before you order those Ohlins......

The ride home was like being on a totally different bike. A big thank you to Hermy's BMW for great service and a mechanic willing to search for and solve the problem, not just change parts.
