Brake Bleed on '08 R1200R

rapiddog

Barback King
2008 R1200R ABS with 12k miles
Brakes have never been bled.

I've done this service on an R11S and other servo bikes.
This '08 gen ABS I haven't.
I've read the tech threads BTW.

Two questions:
1) What is the point of removing the calipers as shown on the one tech thread.
2) Can I just pump and bleed on this '08 model as one would on any other non ABS bike ?

I pull the calipers on my bikes so I can fully retract the pistons to minimize the cavity behind the pistons where old brake fluid can dwell. It is my belief that I'll get a better flush by doing that. I may be wrong.
