Oil and Air Filters 1978 R100S

What is the correct part number oil filter kit for a 1978 BMW R100S? I want to make sure I get the correct one, making me a little nervous reading some stuff out there! Is there a procedure listed somewhere for oil changes on airheads? I might just be missing this somewhere, still feeling my way around! And recommendations for air filter? Thank you!

If in doubt you can call them up to make sure. Here is what I found for the R100S in the fiche at Max BMW.

If your bike does not have an oil cooler you can use a "straight" oil filter.
Part # 11 42 1 337 572.
You also need the following parts:
Gasket: 11 42 1 338 600
Seal Ring: 11 42 1 337 098
Washer: 11 42 1 336 895

You can also use the folding oil filter: Part # 11 42 1 337 570

At one point, you could get an "oil change kit" from Bob's BMW that includes all the parts noted in Happy Wanderer's post.

I don't have the part number off hand, but I like the hinged filter myself.

Yes, get a manual, either Haynes or Clymer. They're a great reference.
