The best cleaner for R100GS alloy rims

My bike is now 22 years old. The wheels are original, and clean up fairly nicely at the beginning of each riding season using a cotton wadding product soaked in some sort of cleaner. It removes oxidation, and leaves a dull sort of shine ..... nothing impressive for the amount of work required.

Question .... is there a 'best' solution for cleaning up the tubeless alloy wheels on the R100GS (and other Beemers using this wheel?). I wouldn't be opposed to doing the cleaning when there's no tires on the rims if that would facilitate things.

A product called "Mothers Billet Polish" and 0000 steel wool can make smooth finish alloy shine like chrome.
Rub out the surface with the polish and steel wool and then wipe with a clean dry rag.
