Kickstart conversion to electric start

Hello and welcome!
I notice this is your first post. This part of the forum is usually the place for new members to introduce themselves and their bike to the rest of us. Plus tell us the type of riding you like to do, etc. Further down the forum is an Airhead-specific place to discuss the technical issues you might be having.
But to answer your question, all BMWs of the Airhead variety beginning with the /5 have an electric start already incorporated into the system. Kick starts were maintained for a number of years, probably being dropped generally with the /6 models.
Unless someone removed the starter and other electrical components, your bike should have the electric start feature.

/5's have both? In any case, I ride a 1991 BMW R100 Classic. I ride long trips and to national flat dirt track races mainly.
I'm retired and have ran out of home imrovement projects, so I'm interested in buying both an
R75/5 and an R90/6 for restoration. This should keep me busy for a while.

That is correct. Notice the entry for "Starter" on this page for the R75/5...was fitted with a 0.5Hp Bosch starter from the factory.
