What's the story with Pichler fairings?

Just bought a 87 K75 for my wife and it has a Pichler fairing on it.

What's the story behind these? Was Pichler in with BMW to make these things? Our new bike (still unnamed by the way) has a BMW radio in it.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thanks!

Pichler made the fairings all on their own. They were popular until
BMW came out with the K75RT. The one noteable thing about the
Picher AFAIK was it made the bike rather hot.
