Cleaning helmets;

Well, I have some spare time and a good helmet interior wash is in order. I have speakers mounted inside, so the liners come out this time and what works? Once out of the helmet, the liners need soaking for best cleansing or does something work quick? I always used a hose or sink and liquid dish soap, many past helmets. What ya'll do? Randy
 
I may be more pungent than most. I take out my helmet liners (Shoei 1100) and wash them in the washing machine. But the helmet still stinks. I have speakers and a mic in there too. What would work on the helmet sans liner?

Baking soda and borax. Baking soda absorbs odors and neutralizes acidic compounds and borax kills bacteria. Same problem with my first helmet, but liners were not removable so I "overdid it" with the mixture and never had another problem. Rinse well for best results.
 
Just did mine;

Washing machine worked nicely and they are air drying now. Took all the sweat stains away:). Wife used OxyClean Spray and standard liquid detergent in washer. All came out swell:). Randy
 
Open a box of baking soda, place it on something to get it in the middle of a helmet that is sitting on a table, leave it for a day or two. Works much like a box of baking soda in your fridge.
