F650GS Preload Adjuster Stuck

I have a 2011 F650GS with a rear spring preload adjustment know that will not move. I brought it to the shop that I purchased it from and they were stumped. They suggested I bring it back when their "Lead" mechanic was working. I will do that but in the mean time any body else have this issue or any suggeted fixes? thanks.

Not at all convinced I can helpe here, but we need more info. I'm assuming a hydraulic adjuster with stuck valving but mechanical adjuster wioth a corroded adjusting ring is possible.

So, we need adjuster type, adjuster position, up down middle, etc, and what it exactly will or won't do.

If it is the F650GS (twin) then it is a mechanical adjuster (not hydro),
and is at the top of the spring.

(Not surprisingly) At the upper end of the preload range the knob is hard to turn.
There is a special wrench under the seat that makes it easier to turn if needed.

I usually put my bike on the centerstand and then with a bit of muscle, am able to get the preload set as desired without resorting to the wrench.

Thanks for the replies. It is an F650GS Twin with mechanical adjuster at the top of the spring. I have tried the plastic tool and putting the bike on its centerstand. The plastic tool does give some advantage but the knob still will not move. Afraid that if I really lean into it I will break something and the warrantee will go bu-bye.

First-Welcome to the forum! Second, now that I know it's the knob thing that you are trying to change, I suggest this-

Mine on the f8 wouldn't move with the plastic tool provided. You could use a heavy cloth and channel-locks to get you going.
The tool is available from TouraTech along with a great catalog-

For the record... when i had my OEM shock... i could move the knob with my bare hands with out to much effort, though it was easer with the plastic turner thing...

Seems fishy to me or you are just a wimp : )

anyway... let us know how it works out

Resolution

The adjuster issue has been resolved. There is good news and there is bad news.

Good News: I can now easily adjust the spring preload using a simple 8MM socket.

Bad News: The screw that held the plastic adjustment knob has broken off inside the adjusting shaft.

At this point I am putting the plastic knob in a safe place and enjoying the bike until I can figure a way to remove the broken screw without more damage.

Thanks for the replies (even the one that suggested I was a wimp!)
