Best mesh high viz over wear vest?

Let me know if you have a high visibility, mesh vest that works great for wearing over your regular riding coat. I want cheap, light, not in the way, high visibility. Cheap high viz is easy to find starting @ 99cents, but what works best and isn't in the way, stays on,etc., is tougher. :scratch:dunno

olympia

I bought the Olympia after checking out several others. Major advantage is the adjustability. It fits over anything, yet I wear it as "security" at events by itself.

You could always go to your local safety supply store and buy a vest to go over your riding jacket.

SafetyLine

This outfit has a pretty good selection:

"ANSI Class II" means they meet visibility requirements and are legal for use for highway workers including flagmen.

You want a zip-up vest on a bike. You can add a safety pin to keep it from unzipping, if needed. The zip-up vests provide more hi-viz surface to the sides than the cheap vests, too.

Visible vest

Come to my town when the public works dept is doing a job, walk around the work site, take off one of those orange lemony colored things they wear from one of the guys or gals who is sleeping on the job. Works everytime and every rider in town has one! (Just kidding):brad:dance

Yes & I've seen these as low as 99 cents but they are not user friendly for over wear on a bike. I have one of them that I wear in the woods during deer season on farm.
I believe AKsuited has the thing, but I'll look at Olympia too

Since I work on a military base I have to wear a high viz vest often. I found that cheap in cost was crappy in construction. I had several that fell apart quickly. I finally settled on the Icon Mil Spec. It ain't cheap, but it works and it lasts.

Try Cycle Gear. I went into the 1 last weekend in Tulsa, There was a BRAVO Brand called the Victor. It was high viz with a large rear pouch which was what I was shopping for.

It was $29. marked down to $14.97. Got 2 for me and the wife.

A friend of mine, retired M/C policeman, runs a funeral escort business. He just bought a Hi-Viz vest, green w/blue trim. Now this is an experienced rider in traffic, and he says it is amnazing how much more he [is] seen / noticed than before. Even with his police lights flashing! He got his vest at a safety store. I believe he told me $10

I myself am shopping for Hi-Viz tee shirts...in warmer weather, going to try them.

I have a tee shirt that's pretty close to international orange that I like to wear when riding when it's hot (which it is most of the time down here). My wife has commented on how bright and visible it is. Then again, I'm 6'5" so there's a lot of me to see. It's made by Carhardt.

+1 on the Icon Mil-spec vest. The little chest zippered pocket is great for holding ear plugs. I got the hi-viz yellow in "super-size".

I recommend "super size" for anyone planning on wearing the vest over their bulky riding gear. I wear mine over my Aerostich, and I often wear a fleece jacket under the 'Stich, and the "super size" is the only size that fits over all of my other layers. I'm a big guy, but I'm not a huge guy. 6', 200#, size 50S Aerostich.

Unless you're a jockey, go with the "super size".

THIS is what you are looking for:

http://www.safetyvests.com/mesh-safety-vests/full-source-expandable-adjustable-safety-vest-us2lm13a/

Cost is $16.95 plus shipping of $6 or $7.

It is light, open mesh, extremely bright in sunlight, adjustable, has pockets, and relatively inexpensive. I wear this vest over my Firstgear mesh jacket when I am riding around town or the city. It is easy to leave on but sometimes I take it off on a long cross-country trip.

I wore one of these for 4 years until the sun completely bleached it out (about 40k miles). I just got a new one this a couple of months ago. It has a zipper in the front (that doesn't need a safety pin) and it perfectly unobtrusive while riding or getting gear on and off. Velcro side straps adjust to your girth and stay put.

Highly recommended!!

Conspicuity "See Me" vests. Cost is $54. But, I have had mine for almost five years, ridden through many miles in all weather. No failed seams or fading. Bright during the day. Totally pops when hit by lights at night. Fits over my Aerostich Roadcrafter jacket nicely. Snug enough it doesn't flap. You will be happy

I did replace my zippers with velcro when they wore out. I also had velcro put on the underside at the shoulders on the vest and velcro on the riding jacket shoulders to have it stay in place when taking off the jacket.

I have been looking at vests a few days now & just googled: "which color safety vest is most visible"? Seems so far to be that yellow wins, per some "experts". You'd think that they only sell the ones that work best, huh
When you read the ANSI specs it tells you that the Class 3 vests are the ones for over 55 mph and similar to MC operation-most class 3 vests are with sleeves-so far my choice is @ www.safetyvest.com vest: ERB-S26/MPN-14609 @ $13.49

Orange is a color produced by nature - sunsets, flowers, sea creatures, etc.

Hi-viz yellow/green is the ONLY color NOT produced in nature. There are no clouds or plants the color of high-viz yellow/green.

That's what makes it stand out so well - it isn't replicated by Mother Nature.

The other day, I arrived at my son's baseball team's end-of-season party wearing my Aerostich with the Icon Mil-spec hi-viz vest. A couple of the parents were drinking beer and wine in the public park. When I walked up wearing my gear, they all immediately hid their drinks, afraid I was a cop. You see, the Icon vest has a neat little badge emblem on the right chest pocket, and to some, it looks like police issue equipment.

Which is a very good thing, because most ignorant cage drivers don't give a crap about running over motorcyclists, but most do care about running over cops.

What was interesting to me about this particular instance is that my RTP was parked in the garage. I had arrived on my GSA, which is about as far away from being a cop bike as you can get! Now I know I don't need the RTP to impersonate and officer and thus improve my odds out there on the roads.

Might not "be in nature" but the guvmint says both colors are ok per the law? I agree that the orange doesn't stand out but it's found in slow vehicle triangles and more, including the vests...

My final choice was from : www.fullsource.com , vest - US2LM13A, XL/2X pretty much the same/similar to the one standing(modeling his vest!) in pic this thread. I liked the adjustability of this one on the sides to maintain a loose, easy fit over riding jacket. The most conspicuous of all are the ANSI class 3 vests but they have sleeves which I didn't want as they block access to my jacket vents.

I have the same experience with my yellow vest. We often do volunteer security at concerts. I wear the vest and voila - instant authority. NQA when I say no. Don't know how cagers feel about me on the bike with it, but I know my atty will push for manslaughter charges rather than the "invisible" excuse.
