Greetings from Wilkes Co. NC. I have a new (to me) old school beemer, a 73 R75/5 and am looking forward to learning about my new ride from the knowledgeable and esteemed members of this forum. My first question; Which manual should I get for this bike? I understand some may be hard to obtain, so is the Clymer manual any good? I await your recommendations.

Welcome to the forum...you've got one of the nicer Airheads! Be sure and head to the Airheads forum and get some of your questions answered.

As for a manual, you'll find a wide range of suggestions. I think the best thing is to have at least two, so you can check each for info that's not in the other. Some have better pictures. Here's at least one past thread on manuals:

There are at least 3 websites that you should be aware of...they are something else to use in your research:

Snowbum
Anton
Duane

Finally, be sure and check out the Resources and Links thread for a lot of links for additional support.

Hi,

Congratulations! This is the neatest site *ever*! And congrats on your bike! Having just picked up a R75/6, I can appreciate the /5 you found! Oh, and in restoring my R80, I found the Clymer manual to be a bit cumbersome but very helpful, fwiw.

Airheads, in my opinion, are the apogee of functionality---simple, easy to work on (for the most part), and stone reliable. And there are guys and gals here who know them shoe-laces to top-knot.

Welcome!

As an Airhead owner you may want to get in touch with other owners in your state. Another good source of information would be: Airheads Beemer Club (airheads.org) The publish a monthly newsletter with info on rally dates and tech articles written by a well respected BMW mechanical guru and 'Friend of the Marque", Oak Oakleshen.
