Starting problems

The bike in question - 1988 R100RT with 90000 miles on it. On the last couple of outings I've had trouble starting the bike when it's good and warm. When I press the starter button I hear a click down near the engine but no start. After a half dozen tries I can get the engine to start normally. I'll do some troubleshooting tomorrow but I just wondered what the collective wisdom was and where is a good place to start.

Thanks.

My guess is you're hearing the starter relay clicking. First...check the battery, making sure (1) that it's charged, and that (2) the ground and positive connections are secure. If those are OK, it's time to look at relay connections....

Everything I've been reading suggests exactly what you told me, start with the battery and then check connections. Off we go to the garage!

Thanks,
Bill
