1976 R90/6 tank size

So I had the tank off and cleaned it. Alright, I tried to remove a dent, but failed. Nothing bad about drying and cleaning the tank. Found a spring and some other debris in there.

So with only about 12 ounces of gas and whatever was in the carbs I went to the gas station. It took 5.57 gallons of gas. I thought it was a 4.5 gallon tank???

The book says 4.5 as well. You think it's really 5.5?

thanks

Two tank sizes for the /6, and like me, you have the big one. I got precisely 6 gallons of vinegar in mine when I was cleaning it out/removing the failed lining.

Hi,
There were 2 stock size tanks for the /5 and /6 bikes, NOT including the R90S. The small tank was listed by BMW as 18 litres (a bit over 4.5 US gallons) and the large tank (the one pictured on the bike) as 22 litres (around 5.8 US gallons). The "toaster tank" of the /5 is the small, 18 litre tank.
