Road Construction Near Bellefonte PA

All,

I just read a traffic advisory to avoid the interchange of I 99 and I 80 at Bellefonte PA. If you are traveling on I 80 there should be no problems. There will be concrete repair taking place on I 99 just off of the I 80 interchange. The message below gives an alternate route that is actually shorter and a much more interesting ride too. Follow the directions for Northbound I 99 traffic for the alternate route.

Route 550 Work Starts Tomorrow (20 July) near Bellefonte Drivers should
expect daylight travel delays *


Starting tomorrow, roadway improvement work will take
place on Route 550 near Bellefonte. Crews will be saw-cutting during
daylight hours starting tomorrow and lasting through Saturday, July 23.
An alternating traffic pattern with flaggers will be in place and
drivers can expect delays. The work zone runs ?»???¢ mile east and ?»???¢ west of
the I-99/Route 550 interchange, near Bellefonte. *


*Next week will bring concrete patching work in the same area. The
alternating traffic pattern with flaggers will again be in place and
drivers should expect significant delays. This work will run Monday,
July 25 through Saturday, July 30. All work is weather and schedule
dependent. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, use caution
in construction zones, and always buckle up. *

With concrete pavement repair on Route 26/220/I-99 near
Bellefonte continuing, drivers are encountering significant, long travel
delays and back-ups. PennDOT is advising that northbound, I-99 drivers
avoid the area if possible?»???¢ *


*Northbound I-99 traffic heading toward I-80 east, can exit I-99 at
Pleasant Gap and follow Route 64 to Lamar to access I-80 eastbound. ?»???¢ *


*Northbound I-99 traffic heading toward I-80 west, can exit I-99 at the
Port Matilda exit, follow Route 322 west through Philipsburg and connect
with I-80 westbound at the Woodland/123 interchange. *


*I-80/I-99 drivers can access updated information on the Route 26
project through the Highway Advisory Radio System (HARS) at 1640 on the
am dial. A message board on I-99 at Harrison Road also offers
information on the Route 26 lane restriction and delays. *
