Alaska Anyone?

Looking to head to Alaska from Wisconsin mid May early June in 2012. Anyone interested in going drop me a note. Brian

Say more so we know something of your plans-like road all the way-long days/short days-up on the ferry back on the road & so on with more info please & thank you.:lurk

I am just in the planning phase and am open for suggestions. I have been gathering as much info as I can and so far am thinking of taking about 3 weeks up and back. Don't know if this may be cutting it a little tight but it looks like about 3300 miles from Mid-Wisconsin to Fairbanks. Hope to make it up there in 6 or 7 days but I don't want to be on a tight schedule as I'm sure I will get side-tracked if I see something of interest. From what I understand, the driest part of the year for that area is mid- May to about mid-June so that's the reasoning behind the dates. Once again , open for suggestions----

I'm starting to plan for a trip in July, might be able to make it June, will need to work around the wife's plan. Anyone still planning a trip?

I am interested in connecting with any of you that might be making the trip next year so just keep me posted. I am flexible as to when I can go and for how long so depending on how things evolve I am very interested........

OK, I am starting to plan my trip, if you are interested, send me a PM and we can exchange emails/phone for further coordination. My general plans are:

Depart From: Round Hill, Virginia
Required Waypoint: Missoula, Montana (1-2 nights outbound)
Target Goal: Arctic Circle (~9,500 miles)
Stretch Goal: Purdue Bay (~10,000 miles)
Departure date: late June 2012 (for planning, 26 June 2012)
Equipment: 2005 R1200RT

I have ~20 days for the trip so I am looking at some long days (avg ~500 miles per day). I am planning to camp most night, but am willing to splurge on a hotel some nights, 75/25 is a good first estimate.

When are you going to be hitting Fairbanks? I'm a bit flexible, but would enjoy some company along the way. I'm heading that way in Mid-June, but am going to Seattle first, then up.

I've never had a problem making 500 mi/days in the Western U.S., but I found 500 mi/day difficult in Canada. The speed limits are slower than the U.S. Lots of construction stops waiting for escort cars. Traffic jams where you wouldn't expect them. Lots of unique things to see that make stopping worthwhile.

Like all things motorcycle, YMMV. Just my 2 cents.

Watch for me:)

GSA1200 under me and getting dirty is commonplace:). My bike is "PolarBear"(Me) and its Red/White, probably quite dirty. I will be there too, most of the Summer:). See ME, give a shout, run me down. :usa Randy

Leaving from Cajun country

I live in Lafayette, LA and am planning an Alaska trip this summer. My time is flexible and I'd sure like to join a group for the trip. The first step in my trip is to buy a good, low mileage, well equipped GSA. Please let me know if you know anyone in the market to sell.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Just an update on my planned Alaska trip in 2012. Leaving Central Illinois in third week of June, heading towards Yellowstone, then to Glacier National Park. Then to Seattle, Vancouver, up the Sea To Sky, and on up to Anchorage. Then to Fairbanks, Deadhorse, then back down through Vancouver, Highway 1 to San Diago. Across to Alamogordo, NM and work my way back home from there. 30 -45 days scheduled. Most riding will be on two-lane roads. I typically ride alone, but would enjoy some company anywhere along the trip.

Comming North?

Spring for a "MilePost" ! You will get to see all the access routes, and even the Marine Hwy.

Some of the routes like up through Banff via the Central access route are pure MC Porn. Chase every two lane you can, and don't miss the Peace River country.

June 21 & 22 I'll be at Dust 2 Dawson, then back to Fairbanks to change bikes and head to MO.

If you have specific questions PM me and the Airheads will try and help.

MilePost a must!

+1 on the MilePost mag. Used it when driving from Anchorage to lower 48 back in '89. Helpful in planning daily routes, site seeing, camping and arranging for Bed & Breakfast's. The MilePost is a must if traveling the Al-Can!:thumb

The MilePost is good but it does lean toward the advertisers.
If you want to see what is in a town, Google it. Almost all of them have web sites with business listings.

Leaving Troy, NY area June 28 and returning July 23. ..Looking for 2-3 motorcyclist interesting in riding to Alaska from June 28 to July 23 ish this summer from the Albany, NY region. We will be towing the bikes and gear in a 15 passenger van and covered trailer to Minot, ND, leaving the truck and trailer and then riding to and from Alaska back to Minot returning to the Albany, NY region on July 23.
There are two committed to the trip as of now and we need 2-3 more bikers to share driving and costs along the way. Contact Dave at 518-421-3242 for the itinerary etc. Also looking to talk with folks who have done this and have advice and stories about riding in Alaska. Leave emails with Greg at this site.

Gentlemen,
I live in Haines, Alaska in the Summer and have made the trip numerous times on my BMW's. If I can be of any assistance in planning or enroute problems, feel free to contact me. Your timing of late May and early June is excellent for Southeast Alaska.
