    K75S Fuel Level Sensor

I removed the fuel level sensor from the gas tank of my '92 K75S and wanted to test it prior to re-installing it and refilling the tank with fuel. I tried connecting an ohm meter to both leads and moving the float up and down, but there is no contact closure. Maybe I am wrong in assuming this is a contact closure type float switch. I didn't think I damaged the unit in any way while removing it, but if someone could confirm how it works I would appreciate it.

Since the float is designed to drive both the light and the optional gauge, it is not a simple on- off switch. It is a variable resistance output.
