The Japanese motorcycle industry was on a fast learning curve; as was the whole of their industries in the 1960ís. Their country was growing industrially and internationally at an exponential rate.

Back in the early 60ís going to the local stores, I would see Japanese products on the shelves. I remember people kinda smirking and laughing usually commenting on how cheaply and shoddy they looked. By the 70ís that all changed. They had caught up.

Ride to the National - through Arkansas

A lot of rally goers will be entering Arkansas at West Memphis, Arkansas on I-40/I-55; heading to Mo. I always recommend the Ar./DOT state map. The AHTD state welcome center address is 704 North Service Road West Memphis, Arkansas 72301. 870 735 3637 hours 7AM-5PM. Itís just past the Southland Casino. I generally recommend getting a couple. I cutíem to size to fit my tank bag. Well actually; Yaíll already know the deal.

    My Current Map

Actually when I started, Iíd go to the center and get one map; halfway through the trip Iíd have it all ripped to pieces. Finally figured out get two; Iím a slow learner.

    Map in Hand
Back in the day, riding out in the boondocks; Iíd come to a cross road. If no traffic; just set there straddling the bike, pull the map out and study my next move. Map in hand. Yep, the feel of a map in hand and on a weekend adventure. Where to next; straight, or turn left, or turn right? Decisions decisions.

Big Guns BBQ Is No More

I promoted this BBQ establishment some time back. They have ceased operation. Willy, the pit master left last winter. I kinda knew that doomed it. So if U want BBQ in Marion itís Topís BBQ.

    R90 Mechanical Freshen Up

Been doing a little work on the Ď75 R90. It kinda fell by the wayside while I was riding the R100R. This bike is a solid all there complete bike. Itís a little rough on the cosmetic side. Right now itís just a daily rider. Really enjoyed riding it a year ago. Since it wasnít pristine, I kinda rode it in a rawhide fashion. My buddy/tech did a nice tune up on it. Actually had a blast on it. Itís a street bike I would ride just about anywhere on. Good candidate for the Wilderness Rally. Ride the Ozarks, all the backroads, rough gravel roads, places most riders take their GSís.

I put a sealed battery in so I have less maintenance. Leo, checking out my wheels. I may look into getting some old school universal tires, mount on some Lester wheels. Get a little more traction/grip on the gravel roads.

This bike is a candidate for a more intensive resto. But at the moment I got other projects ahead of it. The bike runs good and the bikers I run with are impressed by how well it runs.

I said intensive; a better word would be extensive. Stumbling over words.
