Mid-South ride, eat, and meet

Actually looking across the river from Tennessee, we’re probably looking at Tennessee. Yep, large tracts of land is actually Tennessee. The river has cut so many river beds, the state lines are considered indeterminate.:brow

U-turn to ShakeRag

Left the River heading south to Memphis; then stopped, u-turned and headed north. Well the weather is great, might as well head up to my old favorite, ShakeRag.

Had a few guys come up and greet me. I didn’t recognize them right off. Recognized their voice. Most were a little older, had long hair and large beards. I realized I hav’t been keeping with my old rider buds. Got to do better this year.

Back to College ll

I’ve been back to ASU Mid-South. Hanging out, volunteering, helping fix machines. When U operate a machine shop, U need raw rough metal to cut and machine. Around the neighborhood, I see quite a few old beds thrown out. I started stopping and collecting the metal frame rails, now scrap metal. Cheap angle iron.
I had collected a good amount of it. It’s to good to just be scrap.

Started removing all the old tabs, legs, and tabs using the milling machine, drill press, table saw.

Walked into the shop the other day and saw this display to visiting high school students.
One small piece kinda stood out to me.

The little piece sitting by it self was a medical implant tool I made 15 years ago. Machine shop work can be simple and crude or very complex. I like doing both.

Back to Lathe Repair

Ron torn down the lathe gearbox, turned in a small list of parts to procure. Those parts came in. Ron replaced those broken parts, but the gearbox was still locked up. He had to dig deeper. Lead screw will not turn, gotta dig deeper.

My hat’s off to gearbox mechanic’s/tech’s. Gears, shafts, bearings, seals, spacers, uh, some disassembly and reassembly required.

Gear Box

Ron, said I’m 75 and I need a mental challenge from time to time to keep the old grey matter between the ears tuned up. Thx Ron, I appreciate Ur help. I can’t fix it.

K75/K100 Spot Lamp Kit

I’ve got a K100 project on the back burner. The long going stage of accumulation of parts and accessories. This bike is a K100RT transitioning to a blinged up K100 standard.

Looks like I-30/I-40 from Texarkana-Little Rock-West Memphis is a total mess. Traffic at a complete stop. I’m just hanging in at the home place, dry and warm.
