Wow - that is a lot of miles in 20 years. Might want to rotate the tires too.

Draining the gear box revealed the problem. Hard to see the damaged gear below the red housing. We stopped here. We need a special o-ring tool to remove the broken gear. School is closed tomorrow and Monday. Will give us time to get the special angled tool. Work comes to a halt.

    Lathe Gear Box

Was at MidSouth Community in the machine shop class. Finally got the parts removed to be able to do the repair. We had to remove quite a bit of the assembly, to get to the damaged gear. I brought in a master machinist and tech to get the job done. Kind of a complex disassembly. Ron the tech figured out the proper procedure. Pretty impressive to see it happen.

Got the the parts on order. Turn it into the college procedure for approval of funds for the purchase. Ron and I are senior citizens, we both needed a challenge to keep our minds and bodies active. I got a kick outa watching Ron figure this out. We had fairly good parts manual, that was it. Thx Ron, U Da Man.

The boss liked a little of everything. Seems like every car and bike had their own story.

Previously I showed a pic of a split window Corvette. It was just out of the paint shop. Pic 53874 is a pic of the finished Vette.

Back in the day; maybe 1989/90. Looks odd and funny at the same time. I was hitting all the rallies I could at the time. Probably half the BMW riders had a similar look at this time. I was just glad to be riding and camping. Good memories for me.

Keep the pictures coming. We have all been there...to one extent or another. We smile when we see these pictures. Smiling for the memories and because of the gear/equipment we had back in the day. I am sure younger riders will post similar picture 20-30 years from now.
