    Crash Bars?

Looking at adding crashbars to my 2009 F650GS. Leaning toward the Wild at Heart crash bars http://f800depot.com/f650gs-08-items...650-800gs.html

    or

    the Jessie guards from http://www.xplorermoto.com/accessories.html#f650guards

I like the way they complement the shape of the bike. Yet seem to not restrict any the legs or knees. Some of the other brands look like they belong on some other bike.

anyone have any experience with either of these? or others?

I have SW-Motech and happy with-em... considering I did a low-side going down the highway. I have two comments. I think the crash bars saved my leg and I know they saved my bike. Essentially the bike slide down the rode resting on the crash bars and the hand-guards. I cracked some ribs and such, broke a turn signal, but rode the bike home.

I imagine that there are multiple brands out there that would do the job.

Adventure-Spec, Givi, H-B, BMW, Metal Mule, and Wunderlich also make them.

One thing to be careful of when looking at pictures of the crash bars that go up around the radiator faring - they are almost always pictured on an F800GS. The F650GS has a different shaped "port" so the look of the bars is much different ... and generally not as clever looking as the bars seem to be "optimized" for the F800GS port shape.

Also, if you plan on getting a bash plate you should "coordinate" the purchases as not all bash plates fit all crash bars...

    Nice thread here:

My wife and I have the AltRider crash bars on our F650Gs's. We have been happy with them. I was impressed with the way the bars mount and build quality. Coverage and protection seem good. No issues with the bars being in the way when riding. AltRider has video of the bars and install on their Web site. We actually purchased our bars at their Seattle office. They were friendly and helpful.

    Good luck on your search!

I had the Adventure Spec crashbars... They fit nice and looked nice. I would recommend them. The fit the F800 and F650.
