"Driveshaft Thump" is this normal?

I tried to search this question to see if it was already covered, but couldn't find it, so here goes....This isn't the first or second time I've removed a swingarm and noticed a slight thump while rotating the universal joint by hand...seems to be a very common thing. .. at least with the later style spring loaded cush shafts. Is this something that needs attention or is it not a big deal?

Probably not.
It will help us help you if you include a bit of information on the bike in question.

The GS series are notorious for eating driveshafts, not so much the earlier dual-sided swingarm models.

Sorry..the bike I was asking about right now is a 84 R100RS.
Thanks
