Time Running Out For Clutch Issues on 1200's?

marty

Marty
I took my 07 GT into the shop today as the clutch is making a squeal when taking off under load. Never ever tell the wife that she's the load that induces the squealing clutch! LOL!
They are going to replace the clutch, basket and bolts tomorrow under goodwill!
They informed me that BMW is only going to honour this fix until the end of November after that it's up to you (my warranty expired in August).
I suggest that if you suspect this problem ... get them to look at it before it's too late. I don't know if there will be an expiry date in the US.
My shop (Endras BMW in Ajax, Ontario) has been fantastic about this and other issues, but I fear all dealers are not the same.
Just a heads up 'cause I love this bike and want to get many more years of trouble free riding like I got on my 85 K100RT.

Good point

When having mine fixed a couple of years ago I was told the factory had a silent recall on the clutch baskets as the metal they were made of was too soft.

Seems to finally fixed mine

I just got my bike back from the dealer Wed. 11-10-10 and have put a couple hundred miles on and so far no noise. Also the clutch seems working smoother. Took me 2 1/2 years to get BMW to admit there was a problem.

Report on clutch

I've had the bike out for 2 days (a tank and a half) with the new clutch.
They even replaced my airtemp sensor for free as mine had gone missing. Nice touch. Endras BMW in Ajax, Ontario are excellent.
This was done under warranty even though mine ran out in August. Whew!
The clutch engagement is smoother and makes city driving much better. The gear changes are also smoother but you can still get clunk when shifting. Still shifts the best when really pushing it.
When running in neutral, there is hardly any appreciable increase in noise when you let the clutch lever out. The old one was a little louder.
I highly recommend 07GT owners get the clutch checked before it's too late.
