Notes from beyond the horizon

Miquel on his Florida / USA GS following 28 year old retiree Callum Macdonald from Scotland on his KLR. Callum was on his very slow round the world tour anyway he can and decided to stop by.

Very few know that Spain's north has Celtic roots and the sharing to this day continues.

After his MSF Dirt Bike trainingl in Pennsylvania in October of 2009 and the South African tour of 2010 , Miquel has been traveling Europe and North Africa on the installment plan. He works his full time trade then catches an airline to where he left his bike the prior weekend. This caught the attention of Vueling a travel marketeer in Spain and he was featured in their publication in both Spanish and English. Once I figure the PdF application I'll share. However his web site is filled with photos and words that tell his journey.

In early 2010 Miquel ventured to South Africa and rode north to Kenya visiting and documenting the Riders for Health operations. Through media partnering with RfH he will be sharing Riders cause with the Spanish speaking world, first in Spain then to Latin America. In return Riders has offered an extended hand to Miquel via RBP International a storied PR firm and who does the PR for BMW International and other interesting clients. Their support of Riders is coordinating Moto F1 and the world in dire need. For Miquel, he will share the great moto pilot title on the worlds best bike along side with Danny Pedrosa meshing the motorcycle types to a greater cause, Riders mission.

Meanwhile motorcycling ecologist Chris Morgan is on a mission to save the world's bears. He heralds from the UK but has resided in the PacWest due his work and study. Through Miquel, Chris has been able to go beyond the Tour-a-tec USA fame that morphed to Tour-a-tec in Germany to the UK media and now he has been introduced to the Spanish ridiing public with hopes to extend a hand to South America and the Peruvian Bear Project via print and electronic media with the help of another sprearhead MOAer in Argentina. :thumb

Sidebar : Chris Morgan and filmmaker Joe Pontecorvo are back up in Alaska for the last month ( August 10 ) for “Bears of the Last Frontier” (BLF) filming. Here are some recent pics. from the film shoot: http://chrismorgan.posterous.com/pictures-from-an-incredible-film-shoot-in-gat and http://chrismorgan.posterous.com/a-quick-selection-of-pics-from-the-dalton-hig. Plus, here’s a link to PBS NATURE’s just-released and riveting season preview, including BEARTREK-inspired “BLF” and “Echo”: http://video.pbs.org/video/1558498609. Three-hour “BLF” is scheduled for spring of next year (2011). However, “Echo,” the PBS/BBC elephant story that Chris narrates for the US audience (Sir David Attenborough narrates the UK release), airs much sooner in the States: Sunday, October 17th. Oh, and Chris/BEARTREK is mentioned and briefly shown in a new BMW North America documentary about Chris’ motorcycle: the BMW GS series. And we were recently featured in BMW Motorcycle Magazine. Chris Morgan btw sports a MOA sticker on his pannier.

Just a note about Miquels work beyond the horizon and his partnering with riders that make a difference on their motorcycles..................just another face of the members among us.

I know Miquel has many friends in the MOA. He asked me to post this video he recently took in Tunisia. He was riding in Tunisia and on a whim decided to enter what he calls the Tunisian Medina.

bizarre (bad pun) video... i kept wondering when the street would get narrower than his handlebars!

to me it seems he was doing less rocking and more trying to figure out where the exit is. :ha

Motorcycles need to be part of diplomacy.

While the Middle East is in turmoil and we rest because of the long winter, our fellow MOA member Miquel has been riding the sand. From Jordan to Egypt to Algeria the friendly tribes have offered food and drink to our moto-traveler and provided many stories for the major newspapers of Italy, Greece and Spain to the best moto mags.

Here is a nice collection of photos via video.
