Route for Texas coastal ride?

Hello fellow riders. My friend Jeff and I are riding down to the southern tip of Texas the last week of October to do a "southern coastal" trip. I've never been along the Texas coast so am hoping we can get some help on the best roads to ride. We plan on starting out in or near Port Isabel by Padre Island and going all the way to Galveston and then on to the Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama and Florida coasts. I thought I'd try this regional forum for the Texas leg. We have RTs so will be looking for pavement but not Interstate. We also are willing to put our bikes on a ferry if necessary to best enjoy a portion of the ride. We are not in a particular hurry and are allowing about three weeks for the entire trip, (we figure it'll take us three days to reach Port Isabel and then about 3-4 days for the Texas coast). Any and all advice will be appreciated, we're really looking forward to the ride. Thanks, Steve
