Talking Once in awhile you get shown the light

The net never ceases to amaze me...

Who knew there was a posting for two of my favourite things in life?

    My Airhead and the Dead!!!

Managed to see Jerry about 30 times, have seen various of the reincarnations another 10 shows or so. Latest Furthur with John Kusilek (sic?) was the best!

    Europe '72 Set

Anyone buy-in on the limited set of all the music from the '72 run of shows? I figured, what the heck, might as well, might as well... It came a couple of weeks ago in a small little "steamer trunk", travel stickers on the outside, with slots for 22 CD packets, 2-3 CDs per packet. A coffee table book as well. Should be fun to listen to. I don't get enough of Pigpen!

For those that haven't heard of it....

Saw a cool movie the other night.

    "The Music Never Stopped"

Its the story of a brain damaged patient who only responds to music, which can take him back to a mental state before the brain injury. And of course the music that imprinted his brain the deepest was the Dead.

    Check it out!!!

saw Dark Star Orchestra last week in Madison then the next nite in Milwaukee, Maybe my sixth DSO show, and after 100 plus real Dead shows these guys still amaze me. The most joy I get is watching my nine year old dancin and singin to allmost every song. We get in the car and he says that was a pretty good show, can we go tomorrow nite? It was a school nite He went to bed at 1am, then up at 6:30 for school, the the next nite was friday so we could sleep in the nite after.

Just saw this. Did you end up going?

We saw it in Emeryville, CA (other side of the Bay Bridge from San Francisco) and a good time was had by all! It was close to a sell-out and Deadheads were dancing in the aisles the entire movie. David Gans, author of a few books on the Dead, was there which was kind of cool.

The theater folks were very accommodating, turning up the volume when we yelled, "Louder!" and ignoring the no smoking rule in honor of 4/20.

I have a boot of the Alpine show but it was good to watch it on the big screen to see Jerry (post-coma years) smiling happily while playing and to see Brent playing his amazing keyboards (pre-overdose ).

    Miss those guys!

I guess no one bought into the Europe '72 full set... I've been listening to this for what seems like several months!! I like the collection of songs, being a fan of the late '60s and early '70s music. Plus this is last road trip that Pigpen was on; his last show was in June 1972 and he died less than a year later. He really seems to be stepping up and putting on a good performance in early 1972.

I also like the production they've done on these discs. Very clear, easy to pick up the individual artists...I confess that I like to try and find Bobby's guitar and just listen to what he's doing...sometimes he was a bit underrated as a rhythm guitarist...eveyone just ran to Jerry. But the separation of the artists is very good. They played in some quickly set up places, but also played in some high falutin' concert halls in Belgium, etc. with great acoustics.

I happened to get one of the latest Dave's Picks in the mails and threw one of those discs in just to break things up. By contrast, it really stinks...can't hear Bobby, the vocals are not very good. Coming back to the Europe shows is a real treat!
