That would be the show

I'm really enjoying it. Just got into the 3rd CD on the way home. Will finish it tomorrow. Some good stuff there. If only it were a soundboard instead of an audience tape, it would be even sweeter.

I thought the audience tape did justice to the performance and in listening to it later I discovered some of the music actually sounded better on the cd than live maybe due to where we were seated or where the taper was located

Yeah mics will often reject sound from behind, so can actually get a clearer sound than your ears. It is a good recording.

It was like he was just the bass player in Joan and Rob's Band.

It just concerns me, because from the recording his singin was weaker than usual that night. I just hope there's nothing wrong with him.

I hope he's ok too, but he finished the tour in Philly I think Feb 25, didnt cancel any shows and is scheduled to close Bonaroo in June. Lets face it Joan's voice is a lot better.

Oh, absolutely! I love Joan's singing, and would prefer to hear her over anyone else in the band. Having Phil sing only one or two songs a night, at the most, would be just fine with me.

When I first started seeing the Dead, it was rare for Phil to sing lead vocals on anything.

The fact that he didn't even do his standard donor rap and thank the crowd for making music, two things that he has been doing at every show for years now, kind of worries me. :dunno

There is hope! They played "Supplication" Friday night.

Maybe that's foreshadowing Lazy Lightning tomorrow night!

Well - The setlist kind of sucked, IMO. Some bright spots but it didn't come together as a whole for me. The Warner Theater in DC is a nice, intimate venue, the sound system was fantastic, the sets were tight and technically well performed. Chimenti sucked in the first set and then switched guitars to a more "Jerry-like" effect in the second set and cut loose a little.

I admit I am not a real Ratdog fan and this just seemed like Bobby Ace with a real solid but soul-less backup band, half his age at that. First non-GD time I saw Bobby was in the Del Mar Theater, Santa Cruz California, with Kingfish in about, oh, 1977 or so. They performed Lazy Lightning that night, and my girlfriend at the time told me shw would sleep with Bob Weir "in an instant". Bobby Ace is looking a little tired now, and having him do the vocals on every single song almosgt makes you feel sorry for him. If the music thing ever stops working for him, he might be a good candidate to replace Bob Dole as the "Viagra" pitch man.

One thing that never changes, even in the seat of US political power, the Dead Heads are always a unique and redolent force on the scene.

I'm thinking of riding my new GS12 ADV (currently on order) to Bonaroo to see Phil and Friends - anybody game?

Rock on.

Sorry they didn't do Lazy Lightning. I caught Kingfish around 1975 in Asbury Park, NJ, and they did it that night, IIRC.

Sorry it wasn't a better show. I don't think Bobby has "the magic" anymore, and I'm not sure that he ever had it when off on his own. Oh well.

Phil, on the other hand, still has it. I've been downloading his latest officia SBD shows, and they are hot. The show from 2.12.06 with Trey Anastasio
Beacon Theater - New York City, NY, is SMOKING. :groovy

My vacation plans are very much up in the air, but if it works out, Bonaroo might be feasible. I'm not sure though that I might be too old for a big multi-day outdoor show...

Thanks for the tip! Since I won't be purchasing the SBD from the show last night - I will pick this one up!

The shows with John Scofield from Decmber are good too. (3rd & 4th?) But, I may be biased because I'm a big Scofield fan.

Sorry about the shows karma.. I knew when I saw Bob fronting The Dead that it was all over for him.. He has no energy for this any longer and I'm puzzled as to why he is still at it.. He looks like he's in pain.. Could it be that he really needs the dough? Stick with Phil and his free downloads.. His bands still show spunk

I've been considering getting an iPod to listen to Dead tunes on road trips. What's the easiest way to convert my Dead bootleg tapes to digital? I have a few hundred hours of tapes and have put the conversion on the back burner because of the daunting task. I should probably do it anyway to preserve the tunes.

I bought a gadget from either Best Buy or CompUSA's Web site called "Inport" and made by xitel. It says it will convert LP's and tapes but I only got it to work for LP's (so far) I may have to call the company, etc.
Also I've been told about "Tascam.com" and a software they sell - "Sonyacid Studio" but I haven't had a chance to check it out.
I sure would appreciate any info on this subject. Once I quit spending all my time on this web site I'll get back to looking into this and post what I find out.

I don't know anything about those packages and also have a few tapes I'd lke to covert. BUT, you may find it easier to go to Archive.org or http://www.furthurnet.org/index.php and download digitized versions of the shows that you have on tape.

I agree with emoto. These days its much easier to download the shows, put them on cd and then transfer them to your ipod.. Besides most of the shows have been improved by the hoards of digital sound freaks out there.

You don't even have to transfer them to CD before putting them on your iPod. All you ahve to do is make a new folder in your iTunes music area and then tell iTunes to add that folder (File > Add new folder) and the next time you hook hook up your iPod, those tunes will be loaded into it.

I like to use MP3s on my iPod, because the file size is fairly small, however, I tend to download lossless formats (shn, flac) and burn them to CD for archival purposes and for listening on "the good stereo".

Right, I always burn cd's first to have the hi-res, then rip to AAC audio files in itunes (mp4) which are better quality audio files than mp3's for both my computer on my desk (external hard drive ) and then to my ipod.
