Sounds to me like the Deads version of Yoko in Tie dye has gotten involved

Phil's archive.com response

Last Update: November 30, 2005

An Announcement from Phil Lesh:

It was brought to my attention that all of the Grateful Dead shows were taken down from Archive.org right before Thanksgiving. I was not part of this decision making process and was not notified that the shows were to be pulled. I do feel that the music is the Grateful Dead's legacy and I hope that one way or another all of it is available for those who want it . I have enjoyed using Archive.org and found it invaluable during the writing of my book. I found myself being pulled back in time listening to old Grateful Dead shows while giggling with glee or feeling that ache in my heart listening to Jerry's poetic guitar and sweet voice.

We are musicians not businessmen and have made good and bad decisions on our journey. We do love and care about our community as you helped us make the music. We could not have made this kind of music without you as you allowed us to play "without a net". Your love, trust and patience made it possible for us to try again the next show when we couldn't get that magic carpet off the ground. Your concerns have been heard and I am sure are being respectfully addressed.
- Phil

Phil sure mellowed out after he got the new liver. Nice to see his statement, which I think really reflects the core values of the band.

Bobby Ace needs a shave and a head-space and timing adjustment...

Still love the vocals on Lazy Lightning, though...

Heh.

I caught the original lineup of Kingfish at the Casino Arena in Asbury Park way back. The Flying Burrito Brothers opened. Wish I had a tape of that show...

Oh - I saw Kingfish at the Del Mar Theater on the Pacific Garden Mall in Santa Cruz, California - must have been Spring of 1976. There were two shows and i remember waiting out in front while the first show ended and we heard them playing "Battle of New Orleans" as their encore to the first show. The Del Mar was just an old time movie house on the mall - not really a concert hall but it did have a proper stage and a balcony - real old school.

I don't remember too much of the setlist from that night. I remember they played the Marty Robbins song "Big Iron" with Bobby Ace on vocals, and my girlfeiend thought he was saying "big eye on his dick" instead of "big iron on his hip". They also did most of the Kingfish album that night, and I think a Dead tune or two,

I never did like Weir

He always struck me as being very arrogant, no wonder phil can't stomach him any longer.. Whatever happened to "Once we're done with it , you can have it" attitude that Jerry had and Phil has.

Oh man - I'm sorry I listened to that, but thanks for posting it anyway. Bobby sounds like all the ganja and window pane has caught up with him and beat him over the head!

I prefer Dick's Picks to the archive stuff, but it sure is nice to have access to some of those raw, old recording.

We all preferred the Dick's Picks and were willing to shell out $$ for them because they were cleaned up and clearer than anything else, but after the Archive.org affair, and hearing Bobby "speak" about it, I feel better and better about not giving him any of my hard earned cash.

Besides, the soundboards are still available on furthernet and bt.etree.org. :clap

I am making an effort to grab lots of SBDs before Weir & Co catch up wiith these other outlets...

My best friend called me after listening to the Bob thing and said "Imagine taking every dollar you have ever spent on Grateful Dead related items over the years and put those dollars in a box and then count what's there." He was talking about money spent on concerts, food, airfares, hotels, gas, booze, asst other party goods, women, recordings, merchandise, memorabilia, original artwork, sheet music, books and other things I probably haven't thought about. This has all been spent over 35 years by me and countless others.

We have previously been the most loyal fanbase I believe of any band or entity other than a religion on the planet.

For me The Grateful Dead as a commercial business is going to cease to exist and I'm sure many others after hearing the arrogant non appreciative words of one Bob (Ace) Weir will feel the same way

I will however continue to support Phil Lesh who has continued the tradition and direction of the original band and has not forgotten that we as the bands extended family have supported his other bandmates lavish spoiled lifestyles and have allowed them their art.

I agree wholeheartedly - but Phil's singing is something pretty much only a mother could love...

Phil's voice is endearing (you're right. always been horrible), however he is on tour with Chris Robinson right now and there are some great shows posted. Here's one http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=72311

Phils shows also can be found on archive and in many other places given away by Phil for free. His philosophy "once I'm done with the music you can have it"
