GA to NJ Suggested route?

I would recommend riding the National Forests.

Start with the Chattahoochee in NE Georgia (great riding), Nantahala and the Great Smokies, to Pisgah and Cherokee, through Jefferson and then take a pick between Monongahela or George Washington.

NF's provide free camping, great views and usually lower key routes. Western NC is absolutely wonderful.

North Jersey or South Jersey?

North: consider swinging up through PA to Delaware Water Gap and cut over.

South: consider riding south through Delaware and take the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

I like north route suggestion:

North route maybe better in summer months. Through Jefferson or Washington ntl forest n/ne through Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg then east on backrod routes to Valley Fordge and into Del River region.
Cross at Holtwood, PA, rt 372, much nicer ride and avoides the tourist road conection crossing Susquehanna river.
