Motorrad Side Car Support.

This thing is seriously too much fun.. .. I imagine that prop spinning around while it's running down the Autobahn is a sight to behold.

BTW... Brother... That's what makes America great. Loving and hating German motorcycles equally.

IMHO the Messerschmidt hack looks like a Dad & Lad soapbox derby entry.
TEHO as I'm biased.

Support comes from the side car manufacturers.

It is not so much an issue of volume and profit, but more one of engineering and liability.
Right there is the reason - Liability. Can anyone honestly say that adding a sidecar to your solo BMW improved the bikes handling? Just about anyone can jump on a solo bike and ride it off the show room floor...but not with a sidecar attached.

No, I think we are on our own from here on out as far as BMW is concerned...and "On our own" covers a lot of territory...

...and wrap it around a tree or flip it off the interstate after doing wheelies in traffic.

Nah. I'd beg to differ.

An emergency right hand turn to the un-initiated could easily get someone wraped around an interstate or flipped into a tree.
Both have different handling characteristics, but the two wheeler is what most of grew up riding. The assimetrical design of the sidehack has a higher 'getting-used-to' factor.
I still think the main reason is volume. Manufacturers want sales numbers. We are the fringe of the fringe. Not many of us. That's part of our charm :jester

I got my rig already set up... I rode it around and went into some parking lots.
I knew through prior research that I should take the sidecar class, and did.
Between that and Mr. Hough's book, continue to improve my skill set.

I continually practice flying the chair. Not so so much for the cool factor...
As it does look cool...
But I think it's cooler to pop it up over some crap in the road I was unable to avoid.

I'm aware of my limitations as well as my responsibility to myself, passengers and other motorists to safely handle my motor vehicle on the road.

Period.

Before investing in a rig...
Take the safety class.
Aside from a fun weekend you'll know right away if you want to continue.

Interesting stuff indeed. It has me wondering if, as a result of "modifying" a stock BMW, the mothership "endorses" the installation and would honor their warranty (in the case of a new motorcycle)?

Encouraging nevertheless.

I doubt it. Since they stopped puttin' them little knobs on their frames with the roll out of the slash five's new sub-frame design.

Regardless, perhaps "Das Mutterland" will take notice of the increasing interest and engineer subframes from "Die Fabrik".

Who knows. What I do know is I got mine... And love it! :brad

EML help

cool cats maybe...

Good idea, but since BMW corp (like most companies) are more into volume and profit, I would not hold my breath.
It would be nice though, considering BMW's history with sidecars.
Saw you an EML owner as am I.have done a frame up restoration on a former R80 RT[now 9.5 compression 1000cc] Was able to get new EML shocks and steering damper during the process from Motorad St Louis before they closed. Now with work complete, at considerable expense,I am unable to get running lights or windshield.Eurowing in Miami doesn't reply to emails and an email to Dutch EML is also unanswered. Any idea where I can turn.Matthew Mims
