Unless you plan on being competitive (and this would probably not be the bike to be so) HP doesn't mean much off-road, what you really want is low-end torque.

Which you can get so much more easily when you can just change a rear sprocket.
BMW GS aren't much different than highway bikes and really don't have low enough gearing for best offroad capability.
