It’s off-road time! The rivals: BMW F850GS, Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and Triumph Tiger 800 XCa - all of them are 2018 my bikes and all of them are new for this year. In the first episode we took them out for a street test, to figure out which one is the best for touring and curvy roads, but these are not touring machines.
These are adventure bikes and an adventure motorcycle should work both on and off-road. So we left the asphalt and went to some scenic unpaved routes in the Apuseni Mountains in Romania to see who’s the best and to pick a winners.
So, which is the best middleweight adventure motorcycle for 2018? The BMW F850GS, the Honda Africa Twin or the Triumph Tiger 800 XCa?

I remember standing on a CanAm grid taking photographs of Jim Hall and his Chapparal with its, for the day, cutting-edge aero package. My fascination with aerodynamics continues to this day. I pour over information and pictures of racecar aerodynamics trying to understand how they work with the car and track.
Racing motorcycles and motorcycles, in general, are another story. The kerfuffle around the MotoGP aero packages leaves me flat. My first faired bike was a sports tourer with a Shoei fairing I built in the 80's. It generated many admiring stares and comments. I grew to appreciate the protection in both the early and late riding seasons and, especially, when it rained. I sold it replacing it with an R 100 Roadster. Faired bikes have made their way into my garage but don't stay long. I like to see the engine and frame of a motorcycle.
That bit of background will help you understand why a Harley-Davidson powered cafe racer from the UK is today's, Bike Candy. Since this showed up in my feed from Otto Nero, I have been going back to look at it over and over.
The piece roasting Paul Tuttle Jr. has pictures of naked motorcycles showing their frames and engines. I chuckled when I read it, then posted it and noted, to myself, "Well there's ten minutes of my life I will never get back." Unlike this custom, I could not bring myself to scrape the pictures of Junior's creations and make a gallery.
This thread, in an average year, will contain 3000+ pictures; more now that I include galleries to cheat the post photo limits. I look at thousands more in the process of choosing what you see. The process often leaves me numb.
The Rocket Bob's Cycle Works bike is different. I remain uncertain what I think about it but, for the first time in a long time, a bike picture has challenged my thinking. Click on the link to their home page and look at some of their other project bikes.

Bmw R nine T, is one of the most desired motorcycles among Cafe Racer enthusiasts.
That is why today, I will present 2 projects.
The first one is based on the BMW R nine T Racer and built by Jens Von Braun, and his JVB moto's team, in Germany.
The second one is based on the standard BMW R nine T, but it is probably the most elegant I’ve ever seen.
Built by Willie Knoll, owner of Clutch Custom Motorcycles, located in France.
