Bike Candy

I am pleased you enjoyed yesterday's offering. As I watched it unfold in the blog I knew it would be another hit for the Japanese shop. It is a hard act to follow and perhaps more than a bit unfair to this BMW offering.

Motorcycles Business Also Continued to Perform Well.
BMW AG
Q3
Quarterly Report

to 30 September 2011

BMW published its Q3 report last week. After the cover page and the obligatory three pages of tables the report text portion of the report launches into its explanation of the numbers. Three paragraphs into this explanation investors and the two wheeled followers of the Roundel are told:

Motorcycles business also continued to perform well.
In total, 28,862 BMW and Husqvarna brand motorcycles
were sold during the third quarter, 6.5% up on the previous
year. Sales volume for the nine-month period increased
by 4.7% to 99,972 units.

For the general media and casual observers this paragraph will provide the 'sound bite' that will be used to report on BMW's performance in the world motorcycle market. BMW is showing sales increases over 2010, a year in which it bucked the market trend and showed increases over 2009. BMW continues to do well in the motorcycle market place at a time when others are finding the market tepid at best and some continue to find it down right unfriendly.

End of story; let's go riding!

Enjoy the ride. Those of us that read the first pages of tables and continued on to the more detailed analysis of the Motorcycle Segment in the report we may need a few moments to clear our heads so that we won't be distracted as we ride. For me this head clearing included remembering how I understand the purpose of quarterly reports, looking once more at BMW's Q1 and Q2 reports while anticipating the press conferences and various releases to come from Milan and the 2011 EICMA show.

Bench Racing Quarterly Reports

Business writing can be viewed as creative non fiction similar to what is found in the SBK/MotoGP/Formula 1 portion of this thread. The press releases, video, interviews, product reviews, product placement pieces and other forms of this genre's writing equate to the interviews, driver and team quotes and analysis articles. In point of fact all of these can be seen as falling under product placement pieces of creative business writing and are the grist of this threads mill.

All of these forms of business writing share the characteristic of being forward looking. The product review may look back at how a product's performance in a test but is written to help the reader make a decision about its future performance in their hands.

Quarterly reports are serialized formulaic business writing genre. They are published four times a year, hence the word 'quarterly' in their descriptive title and are summarized in the annual report. The annual report is the 'series yearbook' bringing together more detail than contained in the individual serial reports. Race grids, lap charts and results are roughly this threads analog to these business report charts and graphs. Racing notes are the analog of the quarterly report text. They are intended as measures of actual performance.

By the nature of the topic, accounting rules and the laws of most countries these are backward looking documents. Any forward looking statements contained in them are couched in so many disclaimers and caveats as to take all the speculative fun out of them making the most optimistic ones seem down right ominous.

In the non fiction world of business writing, writing about a business quarterly reports is an attempt to make sense of all of this, put it in some context while doing your best to keep the reader awake to the end.

Q1 Complexity simplified by success

The Motorcycles segment also recorded a strong first quarter
performance, with 25,049 BMW and Husqvarna
brand motorcycles sold in total (+11.4%), comprising
23,109 BMW (+10.9%) and 1,940 Husqvarna motorcycles
(+18.4%).

As I read the Q1 report for the first time I quickly realized writing any comment had just became a great deal more complicated. 2011 is the first year BMW will be including Husqvarna Motorcycles business activity directly in its business reports. Since the purchase to date the process of unraveling Husqvarna from MV Agusta and integrating it into BMW's financial reporting system would take time. Prior to the 2011 business year BMW had reported Husqvarna activity in separate reports to investors or in informational footnotes. The disparity in size and volume makes the shorthand of percentages +/- a bit misleading without the inclusion of a bunch of numbers making more detailed analysis a bit ponderous.

Sales were up. Production volume was up. Revenue was up. Work force required to do this was down slightly. Success simplified commenting on Q1. The report did caution us that the company expected sales in the motorcycle world market would be flat. With that caution in mind, in racing terms, BMW won its race to turn one and came out of turn three in good shape for the race that would be run the rest of the year.

Q2 (???) Peeling the onion (???)

The Motorcycles segment performed robustly during the
second quarter of the year, with a total of 39,061 (–0.3%)
BMW and Husqvarna brand motorcycles sold. Sales for
the half-year rose by 3.9% to 64,110 units.

The BMW Motorcycles segment was still ahead in the 2011 race with itself at the end of the second quarter. The internal assessment may have been the second quarter business track performance was robust but this observer had a little trouble getting past some of the numbers. Disparity is size confused the issues.

Overall the company remained 3.9% y-t-d ahead of last year. Great! However, total sales volumes for the quarter were down 0.3% overall. BMW was up 3.6% and Husqvarna was down a stunning 47.4% from the same 2010 period. Production figures apparently had been adjusted in response with BMW units built up 4.4% and Husqvarna down an even more stunning 69.9% for a combined drop of 2.9%. The most troubling numbers were a bit farther down page two of the Q2 report.

Profit before tax – Motorcycles - euro million: -11.3

I don't know if you are a tank is half full, half empty or just glad to have a tank kind of guy like me but that is not a number I hope to have in my tank at the half way point of the annual fiscal race.

The detailed explanation segment shed more light on the sales and production numbers. The European motorcycle market, the major market for the Motorcycle Segment, was down over 5%. The US market was weak and the once growing Japanese market was slumping.

As I tried to understand the negative revenues I kept thinking about the release of the K1600, the press teases about the maxi scooter, the wasser-boxer, anticipating a new S1000RR. The company was doing a great deal of development work. This cost money. Were they front end loading the costs? Around the same time the news of the new Husqvarna 900cc engine broke. This was followed by sketches of the 900 Nuda and so on. I never went back to dig out an answer to my question. In stead I followed racing went riding and wondered what was up with Husqvarna.

The Husqvarna question I was mulling was a two fold question: why the drop in sales and what is up with a 900cc street going Nuda from Husqvarna?

Q3 (??But what about lines 28 and 34 of the table on page two?)

Motorcycles business also continued to perform well.
In total, 28,862 BMW and Husqvarna brand motorcycles
were sold during the third quarter, 6.5% up on the previous
year. Sales volume for the nine-month period increased
by 4.7% to 99,972 units.

As mentioned earlier, there is a standard format to the quarterly reports. This has resulted in a reading routine for me. I scan the numbers on page 2 and 3 checking the motorcycle sales, production and earnings numbers first. Then on to page three and the first motorcycle mention that always comes right after the automobile segment paragraph. (At this point I often pause to speculate on how to import a bottle of what ever the author was drinking or what they were smoking when they wrote this paragraph.) Then on to the more detailed explanation of the motorcycle segment sandwiched between the discussion of Rolls-Royce Motorcars and the Financial Services segment.

My jaw dropped as I read the 'Profit before tax' line: Motorcycles – euro millions -17

Sales had improved soundly over the same period last year and enough to recover and improve from the loss in track position experienced in the last quarter. At the same time these numbers were improving almost 6 million euro loss was added to the figure reported in the second quarter report. Off to page thirteen of the pdf file.

Strategic Realignment Pit stop strategy and the 2011 EICMA

Motorcycles segment revenues up
Increased sales volumes were translated into higher
revenues for the Motorcycle segment both in the quarter
(euro 334 million; +14.8%) and for the nine-month period
(euro 1,181 million; +9.3%). As a result of the strategic
realignment of the Husqvarna Group, the segment
recorded a negative EBIT of euro 16 million (2010: positive
EBIT of euro 2 million) for the third-quarter. EBIT
for the nine-month period was a positive euro 62 million
(–29.5%). As a consequence of these developments,
earnings for the Motorcycles segment were down on the
previous year, with a third-quarter loss before tax of euro
17 million (2010: euro 0 million) and a nine-month profit
before tax of euro 60 million (–27.7%).

A racing team refines in practice session the bike they built and prepared back in the shop to qualify for the race. Once they know how the bike is performing on the track and where they will start the race on Sunday the team will develop a strategy for the race. In an endurance race pit stops are planed out as the strategy is set. Race conditions often result in the need to change that strategy. Riders will need to change their shifts and how they race. Crews may have additional repairs. Team managers change their plans for equipment and members to hopefully maximize the long term race result.

If we use this as a simile for BMW's business planning we just found out about a major change in strategy for the 2011 business race and beyond. The cost, 18 million euro, is becoming a bit clearer but that may not be the final number. The decision to make a strategic realignment was no doubt made long before this quarter. It is the costs of that decision that are coming out in the open. What the realignment really is remains an unanswered question as I post this. It will become clearer later this week.

BMW Group’s outlook for the remainder of 2011

We expect macro-economic conditions to remain generally
stable for the remainder of 2011. Although the pace
of growth on international car markets is currently
showing signs of slackening, the BMW Group’s performance
will remain positively on track. The Group profit
before tax is set to improve significantly compared to
the previous year, reflecting strong demand for our vehicles
and services worldwide on the one hand and our favourable
position in terms of selling prices on the other...

Motorcycles segment
Despite the continuing process of consolidation on the
markets, thanks to our attractive range of products we
expect motorcycle sales to increase for the full year. Revenue
is expected to rise accordingly. As a consequence
of the new strategic direction being set for the Husqvarna
Group, earnings for the Motorcycles segment will be
down on the previous year.

The EICMA 2011 opens to the public on Thursday, 10 November running through the weekend. Press conferences will be held the night before. The maxi scooter will be revealed. More information on the S1000RR and the 900 Nuda will be published. A surprise or two should be expected. I have no idea what they could be, if I did they wouldn't be surprises.

Woven into all of this will be reveals of the new BMW corporate strategy for the Motorcycle segment. The Q3 report may describe the new strategic direction as being set for the Husqvarna Group but since the first of the year they are part of the Motorcycle Segment Team and the strategy is a team strategy.

More discussion to follow.

Definitely going to take a look at that scooter when it gets over here.
No lasers or blue tires in the production model though, which is fine by me.

The new BMW C 600 Sport and BMW C 650 GT.

08.11.2011

There have been drastic changes in the requirements for individual mobility concepts, specifically for conurbations. The challenges facing inner city traffic in future will be growing traffic volume, rising energy costs, and greater stringency of CO2 stipulations.

The BMW Group has recognised these challenges and is developing series solutions for the mobility needs of today and tomorrow. As an integral part of the BMW Group, BMW Motorrad is also dealing with the issues of individual single track mobility and the future needs of customers. In this context,
BMW Motorrad is expanding its business activities to include urban mobility.
As its first offers on this sector, BMW Motorrad will be presenting two premium vehicles on the maxi scooter segment. The BMW C 600 Sport and the BMW C 650 GT combine the outstanding riding properties of a motorcycle with the specific agility and conceptual comfort of a scooter for a new kind of dynamic riding experience.

The new maxi scooters will be built at the BMW Motorrad plant in Berlin.

Two dynamic maxi scooters for sports and touring.

The differing characteristics of the concepts behind these two maxi scooters appeal to a wide target group: the C 600 Sport for the riders with sports ambitions, and the C 650 GT for customers attaching greater importance to comfort and touring ability.

Irrespectively of their differing concepts, the C 600 Sport and the C 650 GT present the unique design language of BMW Motorrad, setting new standards on this segment in this category as well. Modern and dynamic, they are the perfect examples of the BMW Motorrad design philosophy. *

Powerful 2-cylinder inline engine with CVT and characteristic sound.
The 2-cylinder inline engine of the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT is an all new development by BMW Motorrad with a displacement of 647*cc. In both models, its rated power output is 44*kW (60*hp) at 7500*rpm, and its
max torque of 66*Nm is available at 6000*rpm. The power is transferred via a directly integrated CVT, or continuously variable transmission.

The engine owes its low position and therefore low centre of gravity to its cylinder bank, which is inclined to the front through 70??. The characteristic sound and low vibration levels are the result of the 90?? crank pin offset, 270?? ignition spacing, and two balancer shafts driven by spur gears.

An electronic fuel injection system supplies the four valves under the two overhead camshafts. Oil is supplied from a dry sump with double oil pump, and an efficient cooling concept optimises the thermal equilibrium in the
2-cylinder engine.

The exhaust system is made completely of stainless steel and complies with motorcycle specifications. Fitted with a closed loop catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor, the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT fulfil today the Euro-4 emission limits of tomorrow.

Suspension with playful handling and best riding stability.
One objective in the development of the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT was to combine directional stability at high speeds on the motorway with playful handling in city traffic and clear feedback to the rider ÔÇô just like a motorcycle.

Accordingly, the design of the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT suspension features a torsionally rigid hybrid interconnection of a tubular steel bridge frame and a diecast aluminium unit at the swingarm bearing. In addition, the
2-cylinder inline engine functions as a bearing element, presenting a particularly rigid construction for stable and high precision response.

The greatest possible riding stability is also provided by the bearing for the cast light-alloy single swingarm with coaxial centre of rotation.

Also the suspension elements fulfil more fastidious needs for sporting character and comfort. At the front, an upside down fork presents a generous fixed fork diameter of 40*mm. The tail presents a reclining spring strut on the left side. The spring travels are each 115*mm, as they also occur quite commonly on the motorcycle sector. Also the tyre widths and cross sections of the C 600 Sport and the C 650 GT are aligned to motorcycle dimensions.

Powerful braking system with BMW Motorrad ABS fitted as standard.

The new C 600 Sport and C 650 GT are fitted with a generously sized braking system consisting of a two-rotor disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear, each 270*mm in diameter. At the same time, the BMW Motorrad ABS fitted as standard ensures maximum possible safety.

Multifunctional instrument cluster and optional LED daytime running light.
The instrument cluster of the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT presents a large, easily readable LCD display with integrated engine speed readout and an analogue speedometer. The instrument cluster presents considerably more functions than usual in this vehicle class.

For the first time, BMW Motorrad is also offering an LED daytime running light as an optional equipment feature on its C 600 Sport and C 650 GT.
C 600 Sport with the world premiere FlexCase.

The FlexCase for the C 600 Sport is an innovative stowage space concept.
A flap in the tail base under the seat enlarges the stowage space on the stationary vehicle. This can be used e.g. to hold two helmets.

The differences between the C 600 Sport and the C 650 GT at a glance

The sporty, dynamic scooter BMW C 600 Sport is characterised by a seat positioned for extremely active riding. This was made possible by the arrangement of the foot boards, seat, and handlebar in an ergonomic triangle. More fastidious needs for touring and long distance capabilities, on the other hand, are fulfilled by the luxurious C 650 GT. The rider and passenger can therefore adopt a more relaxed sitting posture that is highly appreciated especially over long stretches. The ergonomics designed for even greater passenger capability and comfort can be felt in particular on a more comfortable seat with adjustable backrest for the rider in conjunction with a higher handlebar and comfortable floor boards in lieu of separate footrests for the passenger. In addition, the C 650 GT presents a larger, powered windscreen for even better protection against wind and weather.

Speech
Hendrik von Kuenheim
General Director BMW Motorrad
EICMA Press Conference
Milan, 08.11.2011

Ladies and gentlemen, dear journalists, dear motorcycle friends,
buon giorno and a very warm welcome to BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna Motorcycles.
Today is a very special day for us - I might even say, it is an historical day.

 At the most important motorcycle and scooter fair, BMW is celebrating the world premiere of the first maxi-scooters in the history of the BMW Group.

With these two outstanding premium vehicles, we are once again entering a segment new to BMW: we are expanding our existing range of motorcycles to include the facet of ÔÇ£Urban MobilityÔÇØ.

 What is more, our Italian brand Husqvarna Motorcycles presents to the public the new NUDA 900 and NUDA 900 R in their final production trim; these are the first 2-cylinder road motorcycles to be produced since the Husqvarna brand stopped serial production of 2-cylinder motorcycles in 1937

And our colleagues from Varese have brought with them another big surprise.
As you will see in just a few moments, ladies and gentlemen, the Motorcycle Division of the BMW Group is investing heavily in the future of BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna Motorcycles, penetrating new segments and moving into new markets.
In a time in which the motorcycle markets are in a state of ongoing crisis, we are facing up to the challenges. Our aim is to continue to grow strongly and profitably within a difficult environment.

As you all know, times for the motorcycle industry are extremely tough.
However, the development of BMW Motorrad is running completely counter to that of the market.

 In 2010 we were already able to increase our sales significantly by 12.3 per cent.

 This year we have achieved further growth of more than 6.0 per cent so far.

 We are the absolute volume leader in 12 countries.

 In Germany we now have a market share of 25 per cent. Here we sell more motorcycles than all our major European competitors combined.

 And in Italy - the motorcycling paradise - we are the strongest brand, selling some 50 per cent more motorcycles than our closest Italian competitor.
These are just a few examples of our success. You will agree with me when I say that this is an outstanding good result in view of market situation.
As the motorcycling season comes to a close, we can now foresee that 2011 will be a record year for BMW Motorrad:

 We will have sold over 103,000 motorcycles - an historical retail record.

 Our worldwide market share in the segment over 500 cc has reached some 13 per cent this year: in the space of four years we have been able to almost double our market share from around 7 per cent to reach this all-time high.

 And we are also aiming for a new all-time high in terms of turnover and profits this year.

Here, I would particularly like to express my most sincere thanks to our many customers all over the world for the trust they have placed in the BMW Motorrad brand.

The business success we have achieved is an incentive for us to continue to enhance the appeal of the brand and its products.

This is why there are half a dozen new BMW models being showed to the public here in Milan in addition to the maxi-scooters.

Let me start with the model revision of the S 1000 RR: the first BMW superbike instantly captured the hearts of sports riders the world over.

In its very first full sales year in 2010 demand already exceeded our expectations. The RR has become a firmly established player within a very tough competitive field. It is embroiled in a neck-and-neck race to become the world's top-selling 1000 cc superbike.

At the moment we are very close to pole position.

After a period of two years, we have now taken customer feedback and our own experience and put it into creating the new RR. The S 1000 RR now offers even greater ride precision and agility as well as an improved power delivery.

In bringing out this update we once again face up to the current competition and very much look forward to fascinating comparative tests in the motorcycle press.

Another highlight is the new BMW G 650 GS Sert?úo: this bike extends the BMW Motorrad GS family by adding another sporty single-cylinder model.

The latest GS model by BMW combines all-round qualities with attractive value for money and improved off-road suitability. The new G 650 GS Sert?úo revives the spirit of the highly successful F 650 GS Dakar. Even visually it arouses the desire for a motorcycling adventure - for example in the Sert?úo, a semi-desert area in central Brazil.

But this new G 650 will be equally at home in the urban jungle or on breathtaking Alpine passes - not just in remote off-road regions.

Ladies and Gentlemen, there is also a new version of the big GS: as you know, the R 1200 GS is the highly successful pioneer of a motorcycle species which is constantly growing in popularity.

The ongoing market success of this big travel enduro is encouraging more and more competitors to put their own concepts and even imitations on the market.

We are the inventors of the big all-round enduro bike - and this might be one of the reasons for the ongoing high level of demand for the two unique boxer GS models.

The BMW GS motorcycles bear within them over 30 years of heritage and over 30 years of experience - that's something the competition canÔÇÖt catch up.

After the very successful launch of the Triple Black models we now present the R 1200 GS Rallye - yet another very attractive version. Its design and additional features are reminiscent of legendary achievements in rally racing.

And now from the off-road area back onto the road: three years ago the medium-class roadster F 800 R saw its world premiere here at the EICMA show.

From the very beginning, this motorcycle, with its very attractive concept, did extremely well in persuading riders of other brands to switch to BMW. Now this successful model has been given an additional touch of visual appeal.

And last but not least we are offering our fans of the great K 1300 4-cylinder bikes two very attractive models with special paint finishes and special equipment features: The special model K 1300 R and the K 1300 S with HP Package.

So much for the new BMW motorcycles here at the EICMA.

Immediately after the BMW press conference, Klaus Allisat, the Head of Husqvarna Motorcycles, will report on our Italian motorcycle brand.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, we come to the part you have all been so keenly looking forward to: the world premiere of the BMW maxi-scooters.

I said at the beginning of my speech that we aim to grow profitably in the future - with both brands, BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna Motorcycles.

To this end we are looking at which other business areas above and beyond our existing portfolio we might consider as potential new territory.

One such area is that of individual mobility in the constantly growing urban areas.
The requirements of mobility concepts, especially in big cities, are subject to considerable change. Increasing traffic, energy costs and CO2 constraints on travelling in inner city areas are the challenges of the future.

The BMW Group has identified these challenges and is already today putting solutions on the market to meet the needs for the future individual mobility.
As an integral part of the BMW Group, BMW Motorrad is now expanding its business activities to a new facet: that of "Urban Mobility".

Today we will be presenting to you the first products in this area - two premium vehicles in the maxi-scooter segment.

They are called: BMW C 600 Sport and BMW C 650 GT.
Both vehicles combine the agility and comfort of a scooter with the outstanding riding qualities of a motorcycle:

They are scooters "Made by BMW Motorrad".

It was totally clear to us, that the standards among the top players of the established competition are very high. For this reason we focused on four main points in developing the two BMW scooters:

 An attractive, clearly identifiable BMW design.

 An exceptionally fine suspension.

 A particularly agile drive.

 And the functionality and everyday suitability which is typical of this segment.
Our high level of expertise and longstanding experience in building supreme touring and sports motorcycles provided the perfect basis for this project. It has meant we have been able to raise the benchmark to a somewhat higher level within the competitive field.
However, it is up to you to decide how well we have succeeded in doing so.
But above and beyond this, some high-quality technological solutions are to be found in the two models. They show just how much innovative power went into their development.

The new maxi-scooters are being built at our BMW Motorrad plant in Berlin.
Serial production is in fact already underway, but our future scooter customers will have to wait a little before it is time for the official market launch. Delivery of the two vehicles will start early spring 2012.

The C 600 Sport is mainly geared towards scooter riders with sporty interests, while the C 650 GT is aimed at customers who attach greater importance to comfort and touring orientation.

Although they are clearly distinct from one another, they are both based on the same technical backbone, i.e. the drive and the suspension are identical.
The scooters are powered by a very efficient 650 cc 2-cylinder in-line engine. It develops a maximum output of 60 bhp and has a powerful torque of 66 newton metres.

Its conceptual design focused particularly on low vibration and a strikingly individual sound. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel by means of a CVT gearbox.

The suspension of the two scooters is especially elaborate and unusual for this segment: the front wheel control is by means of an upside down fork; and for the first time in this class the rear wheel is controlled by a single swingarm.

In both vehicles two integral helmets can be stored. In the case of the C 600 Sport this is enabled by the very innovative and patented storage concept BMW FlexCase.

This are only a few highlights of the BMW scooter technology.

You will find all the technical details in the extensive press documents provided. And our experts will be more than happy to show you the technological highlights on the demonstration vehicles in just a moment.

I also believe it is important to mention that both maxi-scooters are typical BMWs when it comes to safety and environment:

Both vehicles have generously sized ABS brake systems as standard. They can also be optionally fitted with a so-called daytime running light, which enhances ride safety in city traffic especially.

And in addition to a low level of fuel consumption, the scooters also offer low emission levels. In fact they already fulfil the future exhaust gas limits defined by the Euro-4 standard.

Ladies and gentlemen,
The innovative and - as I believe - distinctive and very emotional design of the two vehicles was created by our design team under David Robb.

Before we go ahead and unveil the two scooters in just a moment, I would like to ask David Robb to explain certain key aspects of the new BMW scooter design to you

BMW Motorrad Rider??s Equipment 2012.

08.11.2011

BMW Motorrad RiderÔÇÖs Equipment for 2012 is made up of two sections packed full of new products: BMW Motorrad Ridecontains the functional articles from helmets to rucksacks, while the new fan collections can be found in BMW Motorrad Style .

P90084382highRes-S.jpg
Rider Equipment 2012 ÔÇô Gallery

Once again, plenty of innovations and developments have been added to BMW Motorrad Ride for 2012: the products all feature meticulously selected materials, carefully crafted technology and safety concepts and modern design, constituting uncompromising, high-quality riderÔÇÖs equipment.

The AirFlow 2 helmet is a completely new development that lives up to its name in terms of aerodynamics and optimum ventilation. Carbon insets and padding foamed in a variety of thicknesses ensure maximum safety. The urban design, which includes aluminium applications for a modern look, leaves nothing to be desired. Some of the helmet colours have been chosen to coordinate with the BMW Maxi-Scooter.

The core of BMW Motorrad RiderÔÇÖs Equipment consists of five suits: TourShell, Start, Sport 2, DoubleR and KlimaKomfort 2. As well as offering excellent functionality, the well-conceived colour schemes and tailoring of the suits means that the products can be combined to unique effect: Thus, for example the Start suit for women goes very well with the DoubleR and Sport 2 suits.

It is now easier than ever to find the perfect individual combination for every tour thanks to the wider range of jackets and trousers available in the BMW Motorrad RiderÔÇÖs Equipment 2012 : Thus, the Boulder Neon, Urban and Venting jackets not only create an excellent complete outfit when teamed with Allround and Summer 3 trousers, but can also be combined with all BMW Motorrad suits thanks to zip adapters. Naturally, the jackets and trousers meet the same high safety standards as the suits. Of course, these highly functional, attractive jackets are not just designed as motorcycle equipment, but can also be worn as casual daywear.

The ProTouring 2 boot is now also available in a version for women . It has been completely redesigned, achieving optimum stability with a significant increase in the heel height that still remains discreet: the extra height is mostly hidden inside the boot. ProTouring 2 features a slim, feminine design and is the perfect professional standard all-year-round boot. Also in the same league is the SportDry boot, which has a patented safety system. Inside, the foot has maximum freedom of movement.

The GORE-TEX?« membrane ensures that the boot is waterproof and breathable. Its cutting edge technology offers perfect protection from injury. The Sneaker X2 has also been further improved, for example in the heel area, and, thanks to its breathable material and discreet design, is perfect for day-to-day city traffic and for the office.

BMW Motorrad RiderÔÇÖs Equipment 2012 stands for premium quality and safety from head to toe - and hand: the unique composite material Keratan was incorporated in the ProSport leather glove . This enhances the leatherÔÇÖs resistance to abrasion enormously. The understated colour scheme means that the glove can be combined perfectly with any equipment variant. The Urban glove is made form the finest goatskin and is particularly suitable for the city and short journeys. It may not look like a classic motorcycle glove, but the hands will be protected in the event of impact.

Socks and stockings are an important, often forgotten detail ÔÇô however functional socks and stockings from BMW Motorrad are designed to be teamed with boots and shoes with breathable membranes and ensure that the feet stay at the right temperature on every tour, whatever the weather.

The MessengerBag 2 and Function 3 rucksack round off the range of new features available in the BMW Motorrad RiderÔÇÖs Equipment. Both product have been developed from tried-and-tested products and provide plenty of storage space despite their compact dimensions. The MessengerBag 2can hold anything the average commuter needs for his daily journey to the office. The extra padding means that the laptop is particularly well protected, while the detachable hip belt ensures that the bag remains in secure contact with the rider. One of the special features of the Function 3 rucksack are the straps that enable the rucksack to be fastened directly to the motorcycle in a single move.

Under the familiar umbrella brand BMW Motorrad Style , the new fan articles from BMW Motorrad for the 2012 season are divided into the following areas.
BMW Motorrad Style Heritage,
BMW Motorrad Style Urban and
BMW Motorrad Style Motorsport.

Naturally, all the familiar articles from the BMW Motorrad Style logo collection will also be available in 2012.

BMW Motorrad Style Heritage turns the spotlight on historic
