New to the forum, not to BMWs

After years of being a lapsed rider, having previously owned an R100/7 with full touring gear, a first-year production R100RT, and first year K100RT, I gave it all up due to a lot of turmoil in my life. But I've decided to rekindle my love affair with the boxer twin, and just purchased a new R1200RT. I hope for a long, continuous relationship with BMWs from now on.

Welcome CaptHerp - you have choosen a fine steed, I would have liked to have kept mine.

Anyway, lets see a picture of your bike.

If you were not aware the the Garage Section has a Hexhead specific subforum, with a very detailed DIY/Technical section for almost all maintaince activities.

Check in often

Here's a picture of the new bike -- also would like some advice on the possibility of mounting a pair of Fiamm horns on it, if there is enough space under the fairing. I realize that there's probably a different section for this, but if anyone could answer me here, or direct me to the proper section of the forum I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Tony

Lovely steed -

Regarding the horns - in the case of my K100 RS the replacement was quite straight forward.... you however have the CANBUS electrical system. I swapped out the factory units and replaced with the Stebel Magnum units - one high and one low.... 139 Db - which translates to very, very loud.

I'll let someone else speak to the unique aspects of the CANBUS system, but I wired mine in using a relay and the Eastern Beaver wiring harness. (easternbeaver.com)

Usual disclaimers.

I use mine in defense against teenagers on cell phones, moms in minivans, and gents reading the newspaper in their car at green lights. :nono
