For the Perf Minded Hedz...

The price right now would be a good buy. But rare? Not when you can still send your swing arm to San Jose BMW and have them weld it and paint it. Current cost at SJBMW $179 without the paint

Yeah, somewhat rare, or at least medium rare, I've never seen a braced early eighties swing arm as they were already a little more rigid than their predecessors.
 
I had one on my '82 RS. My tech, Dave Anderson, would just have a local guy weld them up and powder coat them. It worked well.
